Gary had perfect pitch and when bending notes, he always got it spot on! Perfect vibrato also makes the guitar talk and sing like nobody else. But when he shreds, it is awesome and breathtaking!! He has always been, for me, the greatest blues rock guitarist.

I was just a 10yo kid back in 1990, and my oldest sister got Still got the blues LP. I'd listen to it often and imagine I was the kid on the back of record sleeve, playing the guitar. I also remember watching this on TV, mesmerized, completely in trance. Term legend is often used today, but in Gary's case, it's an understatement.

I had the privilege of seeing Gary Moore play live a few times, and not only did he have a complete command of the guitar, as you describe, but a complete command of the amp. It was clear watching him that he'd worked out precisely where he could stand on stage to generate sustain that would last for days, right at the blistering edge of howling feedback. I always felt as if the most skilled rally driver had deliberately put bald tyres on his car just so he could arrive at every note sideways. Nobody else could work out how he didn't continually fall off the road, but somehow he could keep it just dancing on that edge.

I came across your review of this recording tonight and agree with all that you said. It's what happens when a man becomes so dedicated to his music that his instrument becomes an extension of himself and the sole means of expressing feelings. As a guitarist I watched this performance in awe. This performance transcends any analysis of technique or use of micro-tones. It connects to the divine that can be found within each of us... and I'm struggling to think of any other guitar related tracks that do it so well.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Roy Buchanan did the original of this, and he had a few lyrics at just the beginning, but his version was mainly instrumental, and as good as it was, I think this one took it to a totally higher level.

I realise that every day is Day 1 for someone but it still melts my head that so much of the guitar playing community is still finding out about Gary. He should be referenced in the same manner as Hendrix, Page, SRV, EVH, whoever. As a fan since '83 I waited for the day he would become the Global Guitar Guy but it just never happened - and that tells you how much of a crap shoot the whole thing is. He never courted the popularity charts and guitar press popularity contests and as a result he sailed under the mass media radar.

This is without any doubt the best performance ever! Il capo di tutti capi. In your analysis, which i very much like, you forget one thing: for religious people “ the Messiah will come again” is the ultimate belief of hope that the Messiah will make everything right when he comes again. This performance is therefore the expression and reflection of Gary’s life and he truly lived a full life. Without the “insane” technical ability that is mentioned, everything is played with his full heart and conviction that the Messiah really will come again. Not just a title for a great music piece, but so much more, or should i say moore! Rest in peace, Gary, you King of all guitar kings.

Greetings and Love from Germany again. Awesome reaction, buddy. THE MESSIAH WILL COME AGAIN.... More feeling, emotions, extraordinary talent, expression, stage presens, showmanship, love for playing his instrument, passion to inspire and delight your fans, is not possible. Only Gary can do that, in my opinion. I was lucky enough to see him live on stage once. Here in Cologne, Germany on his "After the War" tour in 1989. Before he switched to the Blues. Unimaginable and unforgettable experience and defently a lifechanger for me. But hey, i really appreciate the fact that you haven't said a single word about Gary's death but only about his music and his skills and that shows me what kind of person you are. And you know so much about guitar techniques, amazing, but above all very helpful for me. I have no idea about it and therefore can't usually assess certain parts correctly. 'Was that something that only 2 or 3 guitarists could do? Does this sound so unbelievable, but it is very easy to play? And if someone like you, with your knowledge, is already amazed and can only shake his head, then I know. You're awesome, my greatest respect and thanks for that. I've experienced completely different reactors. Those who think they are allowed to judge Gary because they have read rumors and speculation somewhere in the dirty press regarding his drinking behavior and his death. Those are the worst. They make me just wanna puke. I have been friends with Gary's youngest sister Patricia for over 5 years and I know the truth. And I can only say one thing: People, please don't believe anything that's in the newspapers or magazines. Let the private side of an artist be the private side. I wish you and your loved ones a peaceful weekend. And stay safe...

Gary is trully one of a kind, he was my hero growing up in the 80's. FYI the reason he has so much control using his middle finger and having "the strength of 10 men in each finger" as you said is because he learnt to play using very thick strings. Nobody told him any different, he just assumed every guitar was "that hard to play". If you get a chance, dig up Parisienne Walkways live, there's a version he does on stage with Phil Lynott. There's one note in his solo there that makes my hairs stand up. Again, as you say, he can put so much emotion in one note that other guitar players need a whole scale. RIP Gary

This tune was written by Roy Buchanan. His live version is available on YT. Gary is the best ever, for me. That Les Paul, Greeny, is now owned by Kirk Hammett, so wont be getting played anywhere near the same standard as Gary. Joe Bonamasa said that Gary had the fastest middle finger ever. Despite playing a right handed guitar, Gary was actually left handed. Rolling Stone has released 3 lists of the top 100 guitarists, Gary wasn’t in any of them. I was familiar with Gary Moore from the 70s and his work with Thin Lizzy. I knew some of his solo work like Still Got the Blues but it wasn't until a few years ago during the covid lockdown that I started watching KZbin and this young 10 yr old Taj Farrant playing Parisienne Walkways. I started listening to more Gary Moore. Taj is 15 now and when asked who he wants to play jam with that he hasn't already he always says Gary Moore because he's his favorite guitar player ever. Since he can't his next choice is Eric Steckels. Taj's favorite song to perform at his shows is Parisienne Walkways. Taj keeps changing the solo after the sustain a bit. I enjoy watching him play to see how he's going to add or lay back on the songs on his playlist. A very dynamic performer. He's opening a few shows for Buddy Guy, was guest performer at Prince's 40th release party for Purple Rain, playing at several festivals, selling out his own shows, getting ready to release his first album in August and has had 6 original songs on it go to #1 on iTunes blues charts and he's going to be a performer on Joe Bonamassa's blues cruise next year. See what Gary started! The sky is the limit with Taj. To be fair he did decide he wanted to play guitar when he was at an AC DC concert and saw Angus Young. He got a guitar for his 7th birthday and here he is 8 years later playing better then a lot of guitar pros.

A brilliant guitarist playing a very special guitar named Greeny. The tones belong to the guitar itself, but the player needs the talent to control them. Turn the amp up to the MAX and then use ya fingers to control the power......apparently, the guitars famous tones are found by matching the tone controls to the volume control, which is why Gary fiddles with the knobs so often. When Peter Green made the guitar famous, he was always flicking between the neck, bridge and both while constantly fiddling with the knobs.

The first thing everyone needs to understand about Rolling Stone is that the days of it being a magazine for music lovers written by music lovers are long long gone. It’s now an activist magazine funded by dodgy political groups and I very much doubt anyone there knows one end of a guitar from another. It wouldn’t surprise me if they left Hendrix out and had Bruce Springsteen at number one.
@32a34a4 ай бұрын
I totally agree with you about the guitar being a part of his soul. SRV and David Gilmour are two more that come to mind. Gilmour is a more ethereal guitar player but he still plays like that guitar is part of his soul. The song Marooned is a great example of Gilmour's artistry.
