But at the same time, no one else can be you. That's the best part, skill level aside. Sometimes simple stuff hits way harder. Sometimes you need the shred or it's empty. It's just different decorations of time and it's beautiful

10:19 James Norton was so clean. Holy shit. That was indeed the take. 4:00 Dom Chavez was also sick. Flawlessly transitioning between some pretty tough techniques at a really high speed. 12:44 Nicola Gulmini was super creative. Those weird beat divisions were definitely trippy and cool sounding. 19:04 As a melodic solo, this vibed pretty hard. I really liked those note choices, and the bends were indeed super clean. . So many great players besides the ones I mentioned too. Those were just the main ones that stuck out for me. And this was only like 15-20 entries out of 1500... jeez, this would be hard (impossible) to judge. As a fly on the wall though, I'm glad as hell the shred collab let's me enjoy all these insanely talented musicians.

@@nicholastorgerson8176 you mean he played it live with heavy backing synth turned way up to hide all the mistakes and the fact that he can't actually play it properly. That's why he won't play it to just a click, he can't. And you do realize that going to school means nothing. Most guitarists are self taught, which is honestly more impressive than having a teacher guiding you. I've watched his "live" videos and you can clearly tell how sloppy he really is. You don't go from that level of slop to perfect computer quantized video game sounding 100% attack on every note perfection like that, ever. 95% of what you're hearing in his playing is actually the synth that's playing all the same notes

Borja Mintegiaga (insane, fast but good), Ben Rabha (interesting scale use, I like a little discordance) , Corey Smith (This was probably the best one, fast, but still had feel, my fingers hurt watching him slide that fast), Nicola Gulmini (part of the new school polyphiaesque), Rick Renstrom ( this is one I had to watch over again, amazing talent with out the disability, insane that he can do that with his disability) Shaped In Dreams ( I like when people realize that the frets below the 10th are also playable), Tomas Villanueva ( added some texture with the harmonics and the palm mutes in the lower register, it was the most interesting interpretation with out any electronic tricks) Yang Jin Hyun (super clean great feeling) I like Fredrick Fincke but he had to change the original too much to get it to work with his style but that ending was great. FX Hexchen with the damn spoon again and the over-the-top. James Norton was just too much, sonically confusing but, insane talent, insane speed and insane control. They were all fantastic.

You're giving them a bit of a platform and showing their work. Seeing stuff like this then looking at the Rolling Stone top 250 guitarists in the world is hilarious. The majority of the people you've showcased thus far can outplay most of their list, even quite a few of the mythic legends we know deserve to be on that list. KZbin has helped to increase musical talent so much since it's inception. It's truly pushed the boundaries far passed what I ever imagined.

As a guitarist that started playing during the original shred era in 1987, but then came of age in the alternative 90s, the grunge era definitely did a disservice to my generation of guitarists. These kids are mind blowing. (I’m 48. Everyone is a kid to me now. 😂)

Y'know Jared gets a lot of stick these days (don't know why, success probably), but one thing no one can undermine is him each year now, utilising his platform to showcase incredible talent in this guitaring world. Each year I look forward to it and this years format with these videos is only building hype but also showcasing a lot of the talent that may go missed otherwise. Well played Jared, can't wait to hear the full thing.

I've noticed people tend to kind of shred flourish at the end to finish strong but then sort of just end on a weird random note that doesn't feel resolved at all. It probably wouldn't feel so weird if it were an actual song that continued on from that point, but as an ending point some of these definitely feel more like just trying to show off than actually developing a well thought out solo concept. Kinda needs both elements to stand out.

Well Jared, this is amazing. All great, great players. If this is a "shred" contest, then it's James Norton for me. He's incredible. But as far as my personal taste and opinion, it's Corey Smith and Ben Rabha. Those two are what it's about, the "music" is there with them. Just solid beautiful playing and tones. Now for shout outs: Ricky Renstrom is a slayer and is so inspirational. Then Tomas Villanueva is playing on a frickin Squire guitar and made it talk. Just a young amazing player. And last but not least my dude, Ricky Thrash. He wins in my gen x category for having it ALL together and thumping that bass. He's awesome to watch. So my winner after saying all that : Corey Smith 🎉🔥🎸🔥🎉🏆 Really everyone you all kill it, everyone. Your all winners in my heart and soul believe me. You all slay..... PEACE ☮️

@@coreysmith1974 My opinion in this means pretty much nothing Corey 😁 but I'll tell YOU, I'm 54yrs old and been a professional musician for approx 30 yrs now. Yes a guitar player, and you in my own personal opinion are a really well defined and what I would call a "seasoned" player. I could go on about your fingering and "attack" of the fretboard but I won't bore you lol. But I have always been willing to give credit when credit is do thru out my years and I really feel you have great playing ability. It may not mean much to some but Corey just know, if you can make a 54 year old musician say your good, it "should " mean something.😂 Keep plugging away, I have high hopes for you to do whatever it is YOU want to do. We all can't be rockstars, studio musicians get paid too. 🔥🎸🔥
