aluminum Alloy pole that I found. Near my house I cut off a section and sanded 2 a polish. Which at first sounded kinda too treble and. Claw at the ear but I took some weather stripping wadded it and pushed it against the inside of the slide that I had and it muted the metal brightness enough so it stayed bright but it was a clear sustained note and after putting weather stripping in their it muted it and plus it added weight to the metal because it's such a light alloy but it sounds way better than. Steel or glass it was. A game changer resonance wise. Just stumbled into it but I make my own metal slides And look for quality hard plastic for me to tool into premium plectrums of all shapes and sizes. So customized. To help my thumb forefinger and middle from going numb as all get out because I had my two fingers ripped apart in the middle by a chain that went through it it was a smooth chain but it it ripped out a nerve in their critical to my one finger but it's made of numbness in all those three fingers so I put three different tips on each pick that I had so that if I have started to get numb from picking real strong in one position I could pick down flip it over and play in a different position with a different tension and it would actually mitigate the numbness that way so I wouldn't just have to stop picking. But I love making picks plastics vary widely in quality if you want some of the best Is an old electric GFI box outlet. For plugging stuff in the medium blue is excellent and durable and it down to very fine and then take like a soft cloth and rub it really hard the edges of it get like polished like glass looking and slick so you can put all kinds of tips on your pic like from really pointy to really fat and like funky so it's more of a plunk or a crisp pick or for like getting the harmonics so you want a real point
Thank you for making this video! Much apreciated, i think this will help alot of people in their decision. You played the different slides very consistently and i was able to hear the different charasteristics.

Here's my analysis on each of the slides's tones. The brass slide sounds smooth in the upper neck and has a nice ring in the bottom end. The steel slide sounds full, round, and warm. The glass slide sounds clean and treble-y, perfect for lead playing. And the ceramic slide sounds kind of gritty throughout the entire range of the neck. I currently have a Fender Glass Slide 3 slide (Medium ring size, heavy wall thickness) and I have a Dunlop steel slide coming from Sweetwater very soon. I personally can't wait to try them all to see which ones I like.

It's hard to choose because I like them all xD Do you think it's "easer" to learn with some of them or it's just about sound preference? Thanks a lot for the demo Jack :)
@jackpribek8 ай бұрын
Thank you. If you have thicker strings that are high off of the fretboard, a heavier slide, like the brass, would make it easier to learn with I think. If you use lighter strings-low action, then a lighter slide of glass or ceramic will help you find the needed touch.

Thanks for this mate. I got a short guitar slide, silly mistake, should have got a longer one! In your opinion in case I can't tell the best tone, the best slide for high gain and distortion?

My experience with high gain (and especially at stage volume) is that steel and brass are harder to control because they produce more sustain. So, I would use glass or ceramic.
