@@bnursey8820 I had a guy like the tambourine wife. I wouldn't have cared if he wanted to play alone, but whenever he picked up his guitar he wanted me to play also (or vice versa). I didn't mind, we wrote a few nice songs. He wanted his friends to like me,but seemed to resent it when they actually did. It was weird. But that's passive-aggressive behavior.

I work at a guitar store and one time this dude was pedal shopping, his wife was getting annoyed with how long he was demoing it and they were having some disagreements on how much they could spend. She ended up going out to the car and her husband bought everything he wanted. At the end of my shift the wife came back and returned everything lmao

From all the time I’ve spent hanging around music stores I can honestly say I’ve heard both phases said many times. More than a few times it’s been said to me 😝 Of course I’ve stopped at the store to “just grab a couple of sets of strings” and ended up playing 12 guitars and being in there for 5 hours. 😂

My wife is definitely a combo of "phone addict" and "bored." So I usually try to go solo, or with my 5 year old. That kiddo also wants to try out everything in the store. We spent 2 hours at GC the other week and had a blast.

This is the closest thing I've had to an 'out of body' experience. The "addict" conversation has been happening in my house for the last several years. So much so, that I just got a PRS McCarty 594 in that same River Blue color, 5 days ago. I'm very lucky though, my wife never asks for anything in return, except to start selling off gear that I no longer use. She laughed her @$$ off when she watched this.

That's absolutely untrue. It's just a stupid myth I can't take reading/hearing it anymore. When you have a partner you have additional income. Ideally your income is hers and vice versa. You have a shared account. You buy things as a couple. So when I buy a guitar my wife's money helps me. When she wants to buy shit my money helps her. When you're single you only have one income.

I haven't been into my local GC for well over two years. Last time I bought something from any brick and mortar store was a pedal from Sam Ash and some parts from a Music Go Round before the pandemic. Yesterday I was at Dave & Busters for lunch and I walked out and there it was, the Guitar Center in all its money draining glory. So I went in just to see if anything had changed. No. The first thing I hear is an attempt at Eruption with a group of teenagers around a Line 6 amp. Felt like 10 years ago. That is one universal constant.

Back in the 90's when shopping malls still had guitar stores, this was legit a thing. I can recall many high school "mall dates" where she would go shopping and meet friends at the department and make up stores, and I would go to KB Music and just play until she was ready to go eat.
