Nice to see someone giving props to Stapleton’s band - drummer Derek Nixon, bassist JT Cure. Occasionally Dave Cobb on rhythm guitar, Mickey Raphael on harmonica, Morgane Stapleton singing harmony... everyone around this guy is on his level and on his wavelength. A lot of bands in the studio record in parts, or in separate booths... these guys record like they’re playing live. They are the definition of tight.

As a Live Sound Engineer, you hit the nail right on the spot. EVERYBODY in the band has to pull its weight. It's professionalism. Nothing more. When i can just worry about my job and not about thinking what i should do to cover someone else, the whole thing just move so much more organically.

Of my 69 1/2 years , Chris is my top favorite . I think he has a way of playing his music and omitting parts which our minds fill in. "Genius at work" Not all the best music was from 1960 - 1974 . Thank You ! I know the way it sounds but he makes you part of the experience.

@Michael Palmisano I can’t begin to express my gratitude for you reacting to this performance! Seeing you break down “Tennessee Whiskey” and the live version of “I Was Wrong” are a big reason I became a fan of Chris. I saw him in concert last month and the only thing keeping it from being perfect is that he didn’t play “Cold.” I used to think his guitar playing was simple because he didn’t have chops, then I learned that the subtleties in his picking and overall phrasing like that slow bend at the beginning of this solo are 100% serving the song in the best way possible. Thanks again for all you do here!

What guitar is Chris using in this performance specifically? This performance alone is so inspiring. I learned years ago on an electric guitar how to play Cocaine by Eric Clapton but then due to some home issues I quit playing. I've considered recently learning how to play a banjo but this performance all on its own has done so much to my soul. The notes and flow he plays in this, I can close my eyes and find myself completely in a different dimension. I will go out this weekend and buy the whole setup if I could find out what guitar this is, its sounds like heaven and looks like gold.

Looks like his guitar is a late 60's or early 70's Gibson ES-335. I absolutely love Chris Stapleton's guitar tone on this song. He's also running in to his signature Fender '62 Princeton reissue amp. Definitely a pricey setup but it doesn't get much better than some vintage Gibson humbuckers sitting right on the edge of breakup through a Fender tube amp

Michael you are one of the most talented teachers and musicians I’ve come across on KZbin. Thank you for making this video and sharing your insight with us. I wish I lived in your area so I could take lessons from you. Do you happen to know the best place to look for lessons? I learned how to play when I was in 3rd grade and have played off and on for the last 15 years but all I remember are the basics of the notes on the fret board and maybe 10-15 cords. I’d love to invest some time in actually learning guitar the way you present it here in this reaction video. Cheers, Josh

I don't play guitar, or any instrument for that matter, but I like listening to you explain how to play what we're hearing. I never use to listen to the lyrics of a song. I would just hear the song a billion times on the radio or wherever and learn the words that had been drilled into my head. Until I started listening to country music. I could actually hear what they were saying. Now I'm paying attention to the music and how it's arranged and the different instruments. I find your teaching fascinating. It all sounds so complicated and a lot like math actually. I'm terrible at math so I know I could never play the guitar, but I do enjoy your lessons.

Michael if you like Canadian bands you've never heard before then I suggest you search up SPOON BEND out of Toronto! They recently released a self titled debut album that they premiered on a local news outlet up here. Their ages range from 18-20 years old and have put out an original album mixed with songs ranging from alternative to a sort of jazz/psychedelic sound. My favourite out of the music they have put out is "Butterfly" off their 5 song EP titled ARBORISTS IN TRAINING. Would love to see you review them!

Your hard won insight into your relationship reminds me of someone else I admire: Alecia Moore/Pink. She & her husband, Cary Hart, had an extremely tempestuous relationship for many years. She sang about all of it: So What, Blow Me, Beautiful Trauma, etc. She has said, " It's like he speaks Polish & I speak Italian. So we finally found a therapist who speaks both." They've been married for over 20 years now. Sometimes it pays to get help from a professional, even if it starts with just one person going alone.
