I saw Taj open for CSNY in Sacramento in 1970. His band was five tubas, that’s all. Fantastic!

@@Guitargate hey i saw that you reacted to john butler a few months ago. That vid is alright, but this is better. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZjTmZx8i7uni6s its a street performance. I think its in Spain. The guy is pretty fast on his strings. He even has some incense. He's got the whole package. oh yeah the vid has over 81 million views. idk if you have seen it off camera or whatever.

My all-time favourite concert was at the old Gardens Auditorium in Vancouver BC. Probably about 1973. The place held an audience of just a thousand or two. The stage was only waist-high and I was somewhere near the front. First act was Joy of Cooking, a female-led band out of California. Second act was Taj Mahal and - what I remember as - three amplified tubas. When they hit the audience all took a big step back. Third act? BB King. Live stadium shows can be great but we were spoiled by seeing our musical idols in places that were old, wooden, hot and tight.

Check out how Taj Mahal uses his thumb just ahead of the beat. ba-DUM dum, ba-DUM dum... And despite everything that is happening with the guitar, it never steals the spotlight from the vocals--or from the whistle solo!

Great . I saw Taj play a small venue - VICAR STREET, Dublin in about 2003.. We ended up in the hotel for a beer with Bill & Kester.. My date had got us on the guest list. So naturally I returned the favour & introduced them to MIDLETON & RED BREAST whiskey @ 12euro a shot =) =) There were some great stories ...

yea his band with ry cooder is where duane got that arrangement. Taj is the real deal. I saw him a bunch of times but hopefully more. His album and tour with Keb Mo a few years ago was really good. Also he is an underrated songwriter. A lot of his songs while deep in the blues book arent old blues songs but originals. like this one and Katy for example.

Would love to hear you break down some of Gary Rossington's (Lynyrd Skynyrd) guitar playing at some point. He is my favorite guitarist out of all the Skynyrd Guitarists (Collins, King, Gaines etc). Gary doesn't show off the fastest or the fanciest playing but he always seems to come up with the most melodic, memorable, creative and tastiest licks. And the tone and effects he uses is pretty much always right on for the type of song he is playing on. Gary Rossington is pretty much is the signature sound for the classic Skynyrd southern rock sound!

How about fishing blues? There are folks like you, reactor peeps, who thinks that song is about catching fish. Also. That insane live video of queen bee. The one where he goes round town on a cart. The problem with reacttube is that you guys don't do enough reactions. Thank god for fish outta water for the validating bulk, the steady gaze and the unbending ear. Thank Buddha for you and other reacting musicians and overlapping other music dudes like that old producer who hates on the Spotify top ten, with so much venom that it somehow sounds like he is being mostly positive, every couple months. Rick beato? Also that memetic jazz piano dude. Charles Cornell. And that dude who used to be nulberry and is now the she gulls. His math rock / midwest emo takes on overplayed classics are High Art. Check out his takes on wonderwall, lizzos juice, heyayayyaya and girls just wanna have fun.
