My reaction to hall of fame drummer Dennis Chambers playing Schism from Tool after one listen! kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqrCZoiQqr6cias

He missed the one shot, and it was the shot he said he'd miss. An expert knows what they don't know now, and what they're not going to know later. Larnell Lewis does not know the song, hasn't seen the video, doesn't know that goes with the truck. If he did, he'd have nailed it. The man has AMAZING talent.

Drummers are a special breed, i'm just blown away how he executed that. I feel drummers are so underrated in music over the years with the rise of drum machines etc. I just love a great drummer.
@thesolitaryadventurer2 жыл бұрын
You're so right. I feel like drummers got a bad rep after Keith Moon and John Bonham raised all hell. The image of mad men on the skins seemed to dominate the assessment... Then the drum machine came along - just think, no other musician had their career threatened that way. There's a midi piano but it's never going to automate piano playing. The electric guitar didn't change the fundamental need to know how to play. Yet the drum machine genuinely replaced a band member for a solid decade in pop. (You could argue synths were artificial strings and horns...) A really great drummer is a phenomenal addition to the sound of the artist they accompany. A bad drummer ruins a gig in minutes. Yet a mediocre or good one largely goes unnoticed such that even an excellent one doesn't get widespread acclaim.

This is so far outside of my wheelhouse music-wise that I can't even comment on the song choice and accuracy... but I know talent when I see it and this guy has it by the bucket-load. To see him adjust his glasses in the middle of it all just shows you how the brain is wired differently for the best guys. So much spare capacity. All those hours of practice coming to the fore. It made me think of how something like a Band Aid or Farm Aid or Prince's Trust concert comes together... Back in the day when someone like Phil Collins would sit in on drums for the whole evening, Eric on guitar, Greg on keys... They'd need to do something similar for each song over perhaps a day of rehearsal prep. Just spellbinding that they can do it - but also knowing that if errors occur they have enough experience to make it work. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I know I wouldn't have seen it otherwise.

Larnell the Drummer God...yep , there's not much to say, after ont time see him you get great respect of his talent. Did you know that Snarky Puppy at recording that fenomenal live session album We like it here in Holland (warmest recommendations to check this album...there are a lot of videos on KZbin...) doesn't have a drummer...then Michael League (band founder) call Larnell if he can 'jump in'...He flew from USA to Holland and in 7 hours and he heard some songs and some pieces of not finished songs...made whole drums arrangement in his head (by hearing...without practicing) and on the next day recorded everything in first session...Amazing! (Also is nice that you can see WHAT OF HELL GOOD arrangement...) They also talk about it in Snarky Puppy Documetary (also on KZbin to find....)

I became a fan of Metallica in 1998 when I was 15 and I get what the "old" fans mean. I hunted all the cassettes through the year and got up to speed. That was when I learned that Sandman was a very good song among all the greats that came before (and now after) it. This "new" fan got to know better pretty quickly after becoming a "student" of all their material in the span of 6 months of that fatefull year. Good memories, they indeed remain hehe.

It is a fact that Sandman is one of the most poplular Metal songs out there, and probably Metallicas most popular/known song along with Nothing Else Matters. But it would be cool to see him tackle one of the "hard" ones some time. ut it is KZbin, you gotta do the mainstream stuff, right. Anyway, it is a cool video. Watched the Og before the other reactions to it.

I'm sure Larnell could handle Dyer's Eve no problem, but it had just become frustrating over the years to see people always reference "Enter Sandman" when it came to Metallica that it was such a heavy song lol

Yes. Both Crowbar and Soilent Green are New Orleans bands. Became friends with those guys in 89 when I was in a band ,Basilisk. Tommy is great in both bands but Crowbar is a lot simpler and he`s on a small kit. Soilent probably has more rhythm changes than anyone and is very technical on the drums while staying super heavy @@YesYouCANPlayGuitar
