As long as Vox is building them to adhere to EU standards, you can't build a great sounding tube amp. Not even close to vintage, if it is made for international sales.

Strange that Vox obviously had working versions of these amps at NAMM and then crickets through and well past the supposed summer release. Wonder what’s going on… factory set up or parts supply issues? Unexpected rise in costs? So weird to go dark all this time as if they never said anything.

I had a top-boost ac30 piggy back in the late 70s, sounded much warmer and smoother, no brittleness..may get smoother with use , maybe the valves ? Mine was 15 years old when I got it and hardley used, at full-blast it was'nt deafening but did fill the soace with sound, any space. Ibanez les paul copy was what we usex then and man people would stop and stand in front of the VOX just to feel it's warmth, maybe it was a "one-off"?

The limited info, zero chassis shots, and ONLY overly distorted short demos is strange. If these had awesome handwiring and looked great, you'd think that would be a feature. I could be wrong but awfully suspicious that you're showing so little. We will know eventually I guess. Maybe this year Vox will release more pictures or even the price of these.😕

I'm so stoked for this. I wanted a HW but hated the fawn color. To me an AC30 is black tolex with brown grill cloth. This amp might end my marriage. I hope it's reasonably priced. Considering you can get a decent JMI for 4-6k depending on condition, doing anything near that price would be ridiculous. Too the people bitching about the features. Go buy a JMI era Vox. They need to sell these to modern players. There will be changes. I'm stoked for this.

it's amazing how they keep churning these "hand wired" lines to get "closer" to the real deal... the schematics are out there, and there's no real secret. you need good iron (mostly output tranny), quality coupling/tone capacitors, carbon comps where they belong, and original celestion blues... however, vox has constantly been getting this wrong by cutting corners on these crucial parts. they follow the schematics, but they keep skimping out on good components.
@jjjddd231
@jjjddd231 11 ай бұрын
How about waiting to hear these amps before making such a statement? The Vox guy here indicated that they're going for the sound of an ideal reference vintage amp and not focusing on just replicating the old schematics. In other words, they'll use whatever components they want in order to achieve the sound. I have no problem with that approach as long as the sound is great and the amps are built with reliability and serviceability in mind.

does true bypass mean passive fx loop? or buffered with true bypass?
@gregmize01

no, it means there's a switching jack on the send of the loop so when nothings plugged into it, the in/out are bridged, it's(the fx loop) essentially not there.

@@gregmize01 thanks for the clarification, still wondering on passive vs buffered fx loop though. Good to know it's not in the circuit when not in use, but many other companies use buffered fx loop nowadays to have longer cable runs and less top end loss in the loop. Hopefully we find out soon

No EF86 AND no vibrato/tremolo channel? Seriously? They also removed master volume bypass in favour of reverb. Also the new AC4 is still goofy like the old one and is top boost channel only without the top cut knob so you need to use an eq pedal with it.

Most modern players don't care for the above features. If you're that nit picky get a JMI. These seem like a hybrid of Denny's circuit and what modern players would use. I strictly use the normal channel, a vib trem would just collect dust. I understand your complaints but they have to sell these to people other than JMI enthusiasts. I wanted the old HW but I'm not a fan of the fawn color and North Coast Music stopped making custom made cabinets (I bought the last AC30 from him when he was closing his shop down). So this is a dream product for me. Hopefully enough of Denny's spirit is in there with the modern features like a master volume among others that I would prefer. As mentioned if you really want a JMI era AC30...Buy one. And then use this for road gigs. This is a win win for us AC30 enthusiasts in my opinion. Of course this depends on the price. You can pick up a JMI era AC30 for $4-6k depending on condition. This better be a fraction of that.
