I almost forgot Drum Offs were about groove and pocket like this. They should show case the musicality of a drummer and not just shredding pointless "chops" all the time and using stupid stick tricks to make up for the lack of talent. Thank God they brought groove back to this. These are pros ladies and gents, take note ;)

Its not about being the best, its about bringing your own style to the table, and showing you have a love for what you do in your art. And this is a great example of that. Thats how you can truly consider someone a master of their art. A simple question to ask yourself, are you doing it??

I'm going to be that guy and complain about something right now. Amazing performance aside, whoever mixes the audio for these videos really needs to step it up. Considering that this is a drum performance video, i'm really disappointed that I didn't get to hear Chad's brilliant drum tones. There was basically no tom's in the mix, the cymbals were too thin and crispy, and I seriously doubt that fat steel snare of his sounds like that acoustically... it sounded like I was just hearing the bottom mic, no attack. I can see Chad Smith wailing on the drums, but heard no life in the mixing. Please do better next time. Thanks for the video though :) Interesting to see him in this kind of musical situation.

+Dan Nethercott I scrolled down to find your comment. I knew it was there. I knew someone thought the same thing as me. Just as Audio-technician that mixes the performance of Rock Am Ring, they need to find a new job. This was absolutely HORRIBLE mixing wise. Chad rocks of course, just wish I could hear it the way he plays it..
@cpu5545 жыл бұрын
I don't think that was his fat steel snare. Looked like free floater of some sorts.
@bubinga_basher4 жыл бұрын
Dan Nethercott I hear ya, but in Chad’s defense, I’m pretty sure that’s wasn’t one of Chad’s kit, he probably didn’t have his sound guy, etc...I’m 90% sure that was a Yamaha kit, with a Pearl reso head. The badges were square, and the lugs looked Yamaha. What bothers me, is he had to knock the kit off the stage? A kit, or a runner up would have loved that.
