40yrs later this song is still fresh sounding. It never gets old. Love this song. My mom has dementia and the other day this song came on and she sat there and listened to it like she used to back in the day. I wanted to cry.

Clem Burke is the only drummer who I have ever heard who can actually “busy up” drum parts, yet still have the song remain a simple pop hit. Truly amazing how it can do it again and again and make it appear so easy. Fantastic player!

Clem is one of the best drummers to have ever lived. His grasp of poly tetra diddle piddles and convex flams is pure genius.
@ellie.l65853 жыл бұрын
Diddle piddles and convex flams? What great technical terms ☺. Sounds like something from Roald Dahl. He sure is hugely talented. Love all of Blondie.
@oliverpearson15773 жыл бұрын
@@ellie.l6585 Clem can play anything! I've seen him execute an inverse quadraflop layered with a Flemish flam. Then straight into a Tanzanian deca diddle with fluted humperdinks, finishing with a convoluted tribble bop.
@ellie.l65853 жыл бұрын
@@oliverpearson1577 🤣😃😄 I so agree, it's the decca diddles and fluted humperdinks that get me every time. Wish I could remember this and pretend I knew what I was talking about but would probably sound more Harry Potter than music boff 😃. Great terms.

Clem makes playing the drums look effortless! He's like Keith Moon he just does it with groove and feeling and it somehow is perfection.

I was totally at this taping! I've never actually seen any of this footage til today. My friend Nikki worked for GC at the time and invited me last minute to be in the audience for this taping. It was so incredibly intimate. It felt like sitting in their practice space. I also play drums and got to meet Clem that day. Great memory.

It's a weird time now because when I was young, we were still in the phase of discovering new genres of music, but now we've fully explored the space and the new generations are looking backwards much more and just expanding upon everything because music has infinite variation. I loved this song from the get-go and spent 42 years singing along not knowing all the words and we still don't know what Debbie is saying at ” It's just no good. You tease me like _____”. Somebody get that out of her before she dies of old age please.
