Well hello Michael. I'm blown away by this. Thank you. And you're right, I never anticipated the reaction to this. It's so heartwarming to have my music shared and appreciated in this way. All I do is play from the heart. I go to where the song is. By the way, in the description notes to my video is a link to my tutorial showing in particular the intro. 🙂 Thanks again, you've made an old man VERY happy. And I will subscribe to your channel and watch 🙂.

Loved this cover - I always thought the original was the best song on the album (think I was about 12 when it came out but bought the album on release). Your cover of this is to the original what Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt was to the original of that - a bathing of pathos that just makes the song so much more. Beautiful interpretation.

I found this last fall or so and have probably listened to it a hundred times since. Approaching the top of the middle age hill and hearing this guy do this song validated the foreshadowing of the effects of passing time I always suspected was there, but could never quite express.

Agree the mark of a good song is when you can strip it down or fundamentally change it, and it still sounds good.

I played this song in a band a long time ago, but I never really realized how good of a song it was until I heard the many versions that have been done slowly and acoustic. It has everything that most great songs do, great chord progression, incredible melody and awesome lyrics. Been finding myself revisiting their back catalog and listening with a new perspective. I love lines with pedal tones, when they are done right they become a key signature of the song. This one is iconic!

I loooooooved Mr Clifford’s version here. He brought the lyrics to life and served them up with just the right sound with his instrument. I could see in my imagination this man on a quest as Clifford was singing. He took me there. Excellent.

Iron Maiden are the reason I'm playing guitar at all. And this song really brings me back and the lyrics are so good. Song's written by Adrian Smith, my absolute favourite guitarist of the 3 of them in the band. The original music video takes you back from everything they've made. I love this version! So simple, yet so powerful! Amazing cover!❤

Yeah agree, I know it's Steve's band and he's written some classics, but Adrian Smith is possibly my favourite out of them all for his contributions. The solo from this is superb too.

Let's hear it for the older troubadours. For those who haven't crossed this threshold yet let me fill you in. I'd bet dollars to donuts he has 50+ years of playing experience, has probably played with a number of bands, and has kept his singing voice in shape over the years. His guitar playing is excellent with the flat pick / finger picking technique and his arrangement brings out the beauty of the song and is reminiscent of Johnny Cash covering "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails. There's a certain poignancy age confers on lyrics like this that make them all the deeper. Great job Stewart and thank you Michael for finding this gem.

Every song that i have been a part of writing that was worth a damn was written on an acoustic. Effects are a crutch at times. Gotta build a house with a foundation and most great songs start on a strong foundation. Effects are window dressing and carpeting. This was great, i love seeing older metal heads who look prim and proper still loving metal, im one of them

@@kqh123 Who cares? I've listened to the band for 38 years, and I know the music better than you EVER will. Let me give you a history lesson: Iron Maiden was never a mainstream band. They had ALL of their success without radio airplay, they never needed it. So when people make acoustic versions of their songs, they are discrediting the band. Iron Maiden is a Metal band, and it will always be so.

I'm a little surprised that I haven't seen it from you, and I could've missed it, but if you have taken a look and listen to Elliot Smith's work you seriously ought to he's made some of the best of the 90s and his story was cut waaay too short. I can't give any favorites of my because honestly there's just too many to give, most of his albums are just too masterfully made. If I were to give a suggestion imo his acoustic versions of his works are so much better that is to say with acoustic guitar instead of the full instrumentation, but that is merely my opinion.
