Great procedural video! One step I would add is not to install the sealing rings on the pump to avoid breaking the rings when checking for end play. Makes it easier to pull the pump in and out for adjustments. If the old gasket is intact use it when checking endplay as it’s already compressed to provide the spacing to get an accurate endplay measurement.

Couldn't agree more regarding the rings. Especially important when working with teflon sealing rings (4L60E, etc). Never thought to use an old gasket...great tip! Appreciate your input.

The T400 in my 71 Jeep J2000 whines, sometimes pretty loud, even idling in park. I assume it's a pump issue. I am planning to pull the trans and rebuild the pump, provided the wear on the two halves is OK. I think I have everything coming that I need, minus the pump gasket and the stator sealing rings. Do the stator sealing rings get re-used, or should they be replaced? The pump gasket should be easy. Also, I probably need to source a new pressure regulator valve. Do you have a source for those? Really awesome video series you have here, and it is inspiring me to get my old Jeep back on the road. Thank you!

Question for you if I utilize all of the recommended parts that can be purchased from Amazon, what level of HP/Torque will the rebuild hold up to? I am working on two rebuilds with TH400 for use with Pontiac 455 motors that will put out an estimated 450-500 hp at the crank. Thank you and amazing content and videos!

Great video! Unfortunately I didn't see it until I reinstalled my transmission. I did not fill the pump with atf however lubed the gears up. Should I drop the transmission again to fill the pump? I haven't started the engine yet.

I'm rebuilding a 1984 th400 and had a question about the pump fill/prime please. In the video, it's recommended to flood the pump with fluid before assembly. I do plan to use the blue lube as shown and I've checked tolerances, etc. The recommendation waa based on the pump being able to prime, but wouldn't the fluid leak out of the pump, especially if there's a bit of time between final assembly and install/startup? My understanding is that the converter should be as full as possible before startup, and about 5 qts added initially, run for 10-15 seconds, then add additional 3-4 are then run thru the gears, checking and adding fluid as needed. But at that startup it seems the pump would initially be empty? Thanks for your help.
