Better a little-low vs. too high = better tone. Those Neodymium Magnets are very powerful. oNe LovE from NYC

They are not Neodymium, they are AINICO.

Yes - still powerful. Bongos are neo

Sh....! It feels like I was going the wrong way, almost assuming that my classic stingray is bad. This 4-5mm advice to the string made it sound fantastic. I was lowering it all the time thinking of this mud coming out of my speakers...

thanks for including mm, I dont have a musicman but it has soapbar pickups so it helped alot, I actually used picks to get the measurements right

Ok. 2nd video and I'm addicted to your channel. I have the Lake Placid 5 string and I'm doing this soon along with the 8 neck pocket adjustments on my bolt on guitars.

3mm bass side, 2.5mm treble side, last fret pressed down, sounds best to me.

Mine sounded like hot muddy garbage until I lowered them futrther than I thought they should be as well. Now I'm hearing clearer waves of sound.

Thanks for the video and information. I've added Music Man pickups to a 5 string Dean Edge , much better than stock pickups. Probably didn't get the Height right. I'll be checking that out. I'm in the process of adding some Music Man style pickups to a Jackson JS2 Concert Bass. Not a task for the squeamish , there's a router involved. At least I have a smaller router today. While widening the cavity footprint is not much , the depth of the cuts takes time. No cover to hide mistakes 😬

Can you do direct sound recording please , wonder how the proper high clears the muddy sound

On the MM site and from a Sterling rep they have the high or G string set slightly and in the MM side a lot higher than the low side. I know it varies but there seems to be a lot of different versions. Thanks for the video btw. I’m going to try this way see how it sounds on my HH.

Is that 3/16” from the string fretted on the highest fret? Or from the open string?
@gimmeagig29 күн бұрын
I have always measured with the highest fret depressed. So is that without the string depressed at the highest fret? Open?
@RobsTubeTVАй бұрын
The measurements you present here is that fretted or fretted…. Like another posted I fret the low E at the last fret and measure the pickup to string height for measurement. So I guess my question is, is the 4.76mm measured open string or fretted?

I bought a Sterling short scale stingray about a year ago. Would your think this would apply to my short scale?
@la196 Жыл бұрын
Contacted Sterling, they replied back as follows with my question regarding specs for my Sterling Short scale stingray bass. I have 6 basses, this is my first Musicman and my first short scale so wasn't sure if the specs are a bit different for a 30 scale bass. Thought I'd share for someone that picked up the Sterling short scale. Nice to have a point of reference to bounce off:) This was the reply per Music Man Sterling rep:: Our warehouse tech setup recommendations are as follows: Tuning- Your instrument should always be at pitch before adjusting, to ensure accuracy. Truss rod adjustment- String height at the 8th fret should measure .5mm or lower based on personal preference. This can be measured by fretting the 1st and 15th fret simultaneously, a capo might help. You can adjust this higher or lower by loosening or tightening the truss rod. Saddle adjustment- String height measured from the bottom of each string to the top of each last fret should measure 2.5mm. Pickups should measure as follows: E 3.0mm / G 2.5mm

I was trying to set up my HH Sterling Stingray and was wondering why I couldn't get the neck pickup that high... Seems it's by design. Sounds great now! However I did set the truss rod the traditional way (capo at first, hold at 17th) and works fine (correlated between your vids and another channel). The other channel did say the website has the radius at 12 inches while a 10 works better? I used a 10 no issue. Either way, I'm rambling. Liked and subbed.

How do you measure from the plastic? The strings are over the magnet and the measuring tool keeps attaching to the magnet. Do you push the sting away from the magnet then measure from the plastic?

Great advice. Do you know where to find the pickup screws. I have that a lil stripped. Would like to replace
@michael_caz_nyc3 жыл бұрын
Just put a thin piece of neoprene foam, (used for weather stripping) maybe 1/8 or 1/16 of an inch. They sell it at Home Depot, Amazon or Stew Mac. You can also use a sponge, cut a yoga mat, a makeup sponge or layer an old mouse-pad ( cut it to fit ). oNe LovE from NYC

单拾音器的贝斯两侧都要调整到一致4.76毫米吗?
@Piston17763 жыл бұрын
Just experiment with the pickup height and see what you like. There are no rules it just depends on what you want. On one of my basses I have the pickup closer to the lower strings versus the higher strings because on that bass I wanted the lower strings to be louder. On another bass of mine the pickup is flat and farther away from the strings.
@luigi.zanini Жыл бұрын
you forgot to say if the chords have to be pressed down or not at last fret...
@louisrmusic Жыл бұрын
Not pressed. When you read manufacturers recommendations they usually mention between 2 and 3 mm, and that’s with the strings pressed down at last fret. So with the string action taken into account it’s roughly double this value.
