This LOST Guitar Hero 3 song was FOUND after 17 years

The song "Same Old Song and Dance" by Aerosmith from Guitar Hero 3 was originally planned to be a cover. The lore is that Joe Perry heard the cover and insisted they use a true Aerosmith master track instead. The note chart and audio of the cover version have both separately surfaced in 2024, and this is what they look like when put together.
CORRECTION: The song in the final build of the game is not actually a re-record, just a shortened "radio edit" version that is different from the album version of the song.

The only thing that makes sense to me regarding the tempo map is that they had already tempo mapped the song to the master they obtained. The master track they used is the shorter single version as opposed to the cover, which is based on the longer version from Get Your Wings When I converted the song back to MIDI, literally everything was set to the master track except the note chart. Somehow we got the build after they obtained and animated the master track, but before they adjusted the notes. An incredibly lucky find!

Yes, it is. From what I've heard, they originally went with the cover version because they didn't think that Aerosmith would license their stuff. When the cover came out and it didn't pass the quality test, they approached Aerosmith as a last ditch effort. Joe Perry said "hey, this game is kind of neat", and the rest is history.

Lore Correction Here Moose Man: The version used in the game isn't a re-recording made specifically for the game. It's the Radio Edit (Single Edit?). On modern releases it can be found in the Aerosmith Greatest Hits album (the one with the red background and the cover art has half of the logo cut off) both on streaming and on physical CD. I know about this because I had that CD growing up.

It's funny that there are synth horns throughout this cover, but a legitimate sax solo. That and other elements point to this being a rough mix, likely never finished due to Aerosmith being on board with re-recording it.

I haven't been around as much here as the previous years, but I do remember that he didn't have plans to make the RB2 dlc series. Could've been a pretty great marathon, but considering there was just so many dlc songs for RB across the four main entries (and don't even get me started on the RBN ones), and some of those songs may not be enjoyable for him to listen or play, it's reasonable enough to not do that anytime now.

Sounds like all they had was a demo for the cover, it clearly didn't go through the cleanup process that the other covers in the game did, it sounds a bit too "raw" compared to what's available in the finished game. (Listen to some of the other covers and you'll see what I mean, most notably is the vocals seeming "layered" on top of everything else.)

Tilt with the Riffmaster in Fortnite doesn't really work well. If you'd use the Riffmaster in other games it wouldn't likely be fine. You could try using Left DPad instead
