You know, I didn't realize that these charts were so drastically different. I knew they were different, of course, but I didn't realize like half the notes are changed in some way or another- there's just no way I could list all them.

Percise Timstamps: 0:32 Sliding sections are different 0:49 Chords are different (This continues through most of the song) 0:52 On GHWT, there is a sustain apposed to GHVH where there is two desending notes. Also chords are different 0:58 GHWT has two note chords white GHVH has three note chords 1:00 Chords differ slightly, also there is a descending HOPO on GHVH, while on GHWT there is just a chord 1:14 On GHWT notes are placed in the center of the highway while on GHVH notes are place on the left side of the highway. This continues on into the verse 1:36 On GHWT the chords anchor orange while on GHVH the chords are seperate. Also sustains are different 1:39 GHWT has a whole slide while on GHVH there are simply 3 notes. A really, really tough call to say which is more accurate OR more fun to play. The intro could be either, and would require reeeallly slowing down the isolated track to find out which one is more accurate. WT is more fun, as it transitions from GRYO zig into the GRBO zig before the orange tap, not after it. Flows better this way. The verse riff is more accurate on VH because of the pull-off, but would benefit from having a compomise between the two: a HOPO chord instead of the single pull-off. But alas, HOPO chords weren’t yet established in the series. I’d say the solo flows much better in WT, but the first lick is correctly charted as tap notes in VH. It’s exactly the same lick as in the intro, so why not chart it as tap notes? Eddie tapped it. The outro strumming is much more frantic and hyper-accurate to the guitar stem in WT, with the first blue streak hitting around 18nps. The VH outro is nerfed but you could argue that it’s more fun gameplay wise, because the essence of the outro is to be fun and loose, not precise. Funnily enough, both sound accurate at full speed. If I’m playing the WT outro, it sounds and feels perfect and not at all overcharted - and the same goes for VH, which does not feel undercharted. But all things considered, my favourite of the two is WT. Van Halen songs have to feel absurddly hard, so if there is any overcharting, I can forgive it.

TIL that “One” by Metallica is not the only song to have been featured in two guitar hero games. Note: To be “featured” in a game, the song has to be in the main set list on disc. DLC, importing from previous games, and “Guitar Hero: Smash Hits” don’t count. This is why I didn’t include “Almost Easy” (DLC in both GH3 and GH5) and “Stricken” (DLC in GH5).

The GHVH chart is easier to play mostly because in the outro, every fret transition starts on a downstrum, in the World Tour chart, you have to play more off of audio to get the transitions right.

As with the rest of the game, the VH chart is far worse than the WT one. I think WT conveys the pitch much better. Also the solo is automatically better on WT due to the lack of really annoying tap notes
