A LITTLE ABOUT ME: I'm Dean Wolfe, a mostly self-taught guitarist/composer/multi-instrumentalist/singer/producer/performer. I started out as a full time musician on the road at age 17 for two years, but went part-time ever since while holding day careers including as a chef and in spiritual health care while raising a family.
I've recorded hundreds of my own songs- many being used in media and award winning documentaries etc. I've been in several bands including a prog/jazz fusion act nFuze, performing in International Jazz festivals and jazz clubs. I abandoned the prog genre more or less back in the 1990s but have returned to it now with vigour a full 30 years later- so much prog I've ignored and quite frankly didn't have any idea about. My own prog band was rejected by record labels as "too progressive' in the late 80s, so i detoured into grunge, pop and alternative instead (then folk and acoustic fingerstyle guitar and ambient electric as well).

Alcest is one of the bands that touches my heart the most. Their ability to create textures and atmospheres is just amazing. I cried a lot listening to that band, they are the masters of making emotions come up.

Oh I totally get it, I'm a sucker for that kind of release feeling with music... the same happens to me with this entire Alcest album, Kodama, another song that immediately comes to mind is Ghost Brigade - Aurora, there is a section there that says something about "lower your armor, release the pain" that always gets me

Funny enough you picked my favorite song from them to react to, this song encapsulates everything I love from Blackgaze, cool drums, hunting bass and ever screeching guitars while the screams are more soul touching.

Check out Long Distance Calling - Black Paper Airplanes. They are an instrumental metal band from Germany. They have similar buildups to this song from Alcest except no lyrics.

'Al-say' you got it right on the third attempt, which is more than can be said for every other KZbinr 😂And yeah, Neige has the best scream going. It sounds so multi-layed and tortured.

Pretty sure it’s not Al-say... since it’s not actually a French word... and how in interviews that I’ve seen, Neige never ever ever has said Al-say.

@@justsomejusstsome8994 🤦🏼‍♀️ Some yelling/screaming/(growling?) is perfect to me.. as in Maynard in Tool, and Mikael in Opeth. That doesn't mean I'm going to like it all. I believe everyone does not hear things the same, as in our taste of foods. That's how I 'get that'.
