So "Thrill" is a good song, but it is the "poppy" side of Band Maid in my opinion. Got to see them live to really appreciate. They have three songs from their most recent (2/14) concert out on video currently. Choose me, Domination, and most recently Freedom.

Believe it or not, Miku Kobato, the rhythm guitarist (one's with red rose) at the point when she start the band back then in 2012 till this music video was released in 2014, still can't play guitar properly. Since then (until now) she's mentored by the lead guitarist, Kanami Tono. Now Miku is a monster in her position!

The edit is off in some places from all the takes and I think since no band is playing during filming there are pieces where they just are tired on take 20 and not syncing to studio track. But the solos are spot on and that's when, wow 6 years ago, I went f#&k more please. Accept there wasn't more then accept early pop punk sound they had.

As for thrill, TBH, while it's a catchy tune it pretty much chains them. The drummer Akane should be listed in the history books alongside Neil Peart, John Bonham and Phil Collins. Thrill doesn't let you see that nor does it let you see the other 4 members (Saiki, Misa, Kanami and Miku) at their best. You are just scratching the surface with this band. I have been down the Band-Maid rabbit hole for a while and cannot see myself getting out. Not only are these maidens Top Notch Musicians but damn good songwriters. Their live performances are amazing and should remove any doubt of their musical ability. They have an extensive catalog of tunes I would say you can't go wrong with any of them. If you need good starters set then I would go with the live versions of Play, Moratorium, Puzzle, Real Existence, Dice, Blooming, Alone... to get the ball rolling.

Man! You've discovered a really great band. BAND-MAID can caught you offguard because of their image, but that's what the rhythm guitarist, Kobato Miku, wanted when she became with the idea of creating this band: to make a contrast between what you see and what you hear, something that she calls "the gap". This band is really talented. I think they primarly play a Hard Rock/Power Pop style, but they borrow a lot of elements from Metal, Punk, Blues, Funk and Jazz, and they know hoy to incorporate all of that in one song and showing lot of influences, so their music can remind you a lot of bands in rock history, without sounding like them, they have their own distinctive style. And their range is really wide, sometimes they can be really heavy or more energetic, sometimes they like to pull out soft ballads, etc, they don't stick to some particular way to do music. And their live performances are fire, they really know how to put a show. They're not only masters on their instruments, they always have a good time playing and you can feel that energy and passion. Musically I enjoy Thrill, however i can't watch this MV, i just can't watch Miku with that guitar :D I know she didn't know how to play AT ALL at the time, and I don't blame her or anything, it's just that in this MV her with a guitar is so cringy for me :P Don't take it as a Miku criticism, I love how she created this band and how far she came to this day, I think she is probably the strongest person in this band and I love seeing her rocking today ;) It's just this MV makes me cringy.

These gals are world class musicians, and prolific songwriters. They've put out a lot of music in the past few years. You're gonna fall in love with this band. From a composition perspective, I'd recommend Yolo and Domination MVs to start with (these songs really show off the band's songwriting talents imo). Many of their live performances are better than the studio versions, but I'd avoid the fan cams and some of the vids that have re-mixed the originals in odd ways.

Their first and still great effort. I love these rocking women! They have really come a long way in a few years. I can't believe Miku (founder, back up singer, rhythm guitar) hardly knew how to play at the time. Check out their new live videos on their channel. You won't regret it.

Not even close to their best stuff. It wasn't written by them and they really hadn't found their feet yet. There is 4 unbelievably talented girls in this band and as for Miku, well lets just say where she is lesser in talent she more than makes up in everything else, she IS Band-Maid, the leader and the spirit of the band, in most other bands she'd be the talented one. These girls have kicked out 20 REALLY good songs in less than 5 years, highlights are hard to give because they are all so good, but Dice and Blooming stand out MV wise and their live shows are to die for.

You grasped the idea of 'the gap' right away. The difference between what you see and what you hear was the entire idea Miku (rhythm guitarist/backup vocalist) had in forming this band. And you can probably tell in this video she isn't really experienced with her guitar...but she gets so much better in the six years between the filming of this video and now. So does everybody else in the band, even with their enormous head starts. Still, I love the groove of this song for the simple hard rock jam that it is.

I had a chance to see them when they first came to America and didn't because the name made me think they were just a gimmick. This is their first video and. The rythem guitarist only started learning how to play after the band started performing and you can see in the video that she is hardly playing. Iff you want to see where they are now check out the live version of DOMINATION that came out a couple of months ago from the line cube concert in Shibua and about half way through the song the girls start rocking out and its great and yes she can play now.

You’ll probably like Lovebites a lot. They’re very metal, all female and from japan and well if you listen to the song, “When Destinies Align” it’ll probably give you a dragon force vibe. Look up the official video. For band maid, I say go with a live one, “Domination” from the 2-14-2020 show. It’s on their official KZbin. Good reaction! Oh and if you want something a bit more on the heavy side of band l-maid, I say “Rine” the music video.
