The cool thing about this song, if you don't know, is that it is the music for the final boss fight, against Mithrix. The middle portion, where it strips back and becomes more trappy, as you say, is the part when he runs from the battlefield and summons a bunch of minions you have to fight. After that, when Mithrix returns and you have to fight him again, is when the music returns to full on metal again. And the end, when it becomes even more stripped down and almost dreamlike is when Mithrix is all but beaten, but he has a final hurrah in which he steals all the passive items you have thus far collected and uses them against you as you steal them back by dealing damage until finally killing him. The cut at the end when it gets heavy again is his death. All the phases of the song fit the fight perfectly, it is such a great tune.

The Ukulele is not a weapon, but it is an item you can find in the game. How the game works is that fighting monster nets you money, which can be spent to interact and open chests. Chests contain items that can be picked up to enhance yourself, sometimes actively sometimes passively. You can also obtain multiple copies of the same item to make their effects stronger. Ukulele is a passive uncommon item with the description "...and his music was electric." While a player has Ukuleles, every attack a player makes has a chance to create a lightning chain to enemies nearby the affected enemy, damaging enemies with 80% of the damage that started the chain. Having one Ukulele can chain up to 3 enemies up to 20 meters away from the affected enemies. The more Ukuleles a player has, the more enemies and longer the range of the chain (+2 enemies, +2 meters per stack). Ukulele has been in both "Risk of Rain" and "Risk of Rain 2", and do the chain lightning in both games. It's become quite a popular item because of how useful its effects are in games that require a lot of monsters to kill before getting overwhelmed. According to the Wiki, the Ukulele is likely a reference to David Bowie (or Ziggy Stardust specifically) and his time with "The Spiders from Mars". The order details of the Ukulele in Risk of Rain 1 states that it was apparently a "very rare artifact" that was once owned by a "legendary artist born on Mars" who was "a son of a god, gifted with the power of lightning himself", that he was humble, "and that his music was simply... electric".

You could have summed this all up as "the ukulele is an upgrade to your weapons that deals electric damage as an AoE"

I adore when someone can discern the story of a song without said song having to just tell you what that story is via lyrics. Well done.

wow, for someone who has only touched a guitar once, this was really interesting to watch. idk how your patreon works, but hopefully said guy comes back with another RoR request, because this was really fun to watch. ive heard from others that once you get good enough at an instrument, it kind of becomes second nature to do this, but watching you almost instantly figure out the chords for the song is fucking impressive! that was really cool seeing you process and play along with the song at the same time. as others have said, i would love to see your takes on other big risk of rain tracks like rain formerly known as purple, but even without i might check out your other videos just because of how damn cool this was :)

I don't knowusic theory wat all but one thing I do know is music follows certain patterns almost all the time to sound better to our brains. Someone who knows music can often predict where a song will go from a certain point. Chris Christodolou puts this to the test for sure though LOL

I have no idea how a to play guitar, but I think I understood most of that. Also one thing worth noting is that the reason the song seems kind of split up into different parts (E.G the guitar part cutting to the trap part) is because it was meant to be different phases in the boss fight this song plays in. the guitar shred parts were supposed to be the first phase, the trap parts were the second phase, and the downbeat part at the end was the final phase. very interesting song.

i know old video and such. I've got this super weird condition with music. Normally if i hear a good song i get intense goosebumbs all over me, but in some cases that not all. If i enjoy certain songs they make me tear up and smile. Yada, Yada, you playing guitar literally just caused that. Thank you

Also check out coalescence by Chris Chris. It's from the first risk of rain 1 and basically has the same importance in the game as bigger ukulele (they're both the final boss themes of each game) Edit: just now realizing coalescence doesn't have a whole lot of guitar for you to review and play. Instead, maybe check out hailstorm.
