It's actually interesting that a lot of people here are saying that his tone sucks, which it does. The funny thing is, that the sound is so gained that there is no tone. There's zero depth and articulation, it's just distortion. Take a lesson from Dimbag. Large amounts of gain needs to be done with gear that can bring out the notes and the dynamics. Very few amps can do that. Boogie MkII C++, Krankenstein, JCM 800, Diezel Einstein and Herbert are a few of the only ones that can really do it. The Blackstar is a nice amp, but things get muddy quickly, when too much gain is used.

Agreed, he's a great talent and Ozzy was smart to pick him, but his tone sounds like an undefined wet fart, drowned in distortion with all the mids scooped out. It sounds like the generic "heavy" sound that all the 2000's metalcore bands had. Never really cared for Gus G....no offense Gus. There is no other then Randy Rhoads which those shoes simply can not be filled. However, Zakk Whyle is an amazing guitarist in his own right. No he's no Randy Rhoads however he's up there in a guitarist that will go down in history. Gus the more I watch him the more I do in fact like what I see. I think the issue with Gus thus far is that we have only seen him play cover songs. There's nothing real original that I have seen him do. Still although I rank him #3 of all of Ozzys guitarist having Randy be first an Zakk second. Gus is an inspiration to anyone who plays.

Wow? Go back and really listen to the Ozzy catalog. If you were a real guitarist and music fan, you'd be saying Jake and Randy are the top two, then Gus then Zakk. Gus has done originals he has a full album w/ Ozzy and he's got a few Firewind albums that he has done as well.

Fellas, are we forgetting Iommi here? How can you not put the godfather of metal as one of Ozzy's top 3?
@michellesullivan39279 жыл бұрын
ozfan6 Tony Iommi Is exactly that. The God Father of Heavy Metal riffs. However Tony was with Black Sabbath. This conversation revolves around Ozzy after Black Sabbath. You have to simply love Tony just for his desire and drive alone since the man lost finger tips and replaced them himself with plastic ones when the doctors told him that would be impossible. Yet he created his own finger tips just to keep on playing. Truly a inspiration.

ozfan6 because seriously, we're talking about skill and technique. When people talk about Ozzy guitarists and mention Randy then you have to assume we're tlaking about technique and over all skills and mastery of the guitar..
@michellesullivan39279 жыл бұрын
Ryan T By your last statement are you attempting to take something away from Tony Iommi? Is there a hint there that you might be saying that Tony lacks technique and overall skills and mastery of the guitar?

I had never seen him play up until now but he is incredibly talented! Ozzy is lucky to have found him. Another in a long line of great guitarists.

That amp sounds like buzzy gainy shit.
@anodizingstatic9 жыл бұрын
Yeah. There's honestly no substitute for a cranked Marshall Plexi, be it a JMP or Super Lead. I've tried Blackstar amps and honestly have always came back to the marshalls.

Benjamin Morgan Yeah no dynamics or color at all. Maybe the soggy amp gain setting works for the demo/interview (because the amp is closer to speaking level not stage level)?

Is there something I am supposed to be impressed by?
@SpartanGR779 жыл бұрын
I don't even know you but something tells me you couldn't even play a .25 as good as Gus G. Lmao. You are right though he's only playing Ozzy stuff which isn't impressive but he would still smoke 95% of the KZbin tough guys out there. So think before you speak.

Maverikk68 You sound angry. Maybe it's because Gus is 1000 times more successful a musician than you, nobody.

If you have to resort to calling guitar enthusiasts "retards" on the internet because of your underlying insecurities, you haven't accomplished shit. FACT.

Guys seriously stop hating on his tone. Just enjoy the music. I'm 17, have been playing since I was 5, and Randy is my biggest influence period, but time change, sounds change, guys wanna add their own flare to a song. It's how he interperits the song. It's his sound, and he's the one playing with ozzy.
