Guilty as charged Glen. I’ve been playing the ‘same old same old’ riffs and runs for the better part of 50 years! But I do also enjoy getting out of my comfort zone and playing new songs with different people on an acoustic rather than a band setting. Your overview about practice is bang on Glen and I love the unfussy video production. 🎉🎉🎉

I love hearing this insight. I have been envious of people who “can play.” They always play the same songs-to muscle-memory perfection. I didn’t realize they might not ever “practice” to learn something new. My practice sessions are experimenting with interesting patterns and progressions I hear. I know a number of songs, but not memorized. I will stop being so easily impressed and continue practicing to deeply learn this beautiful instrument that can never fully be learned. Thank you!

Excellent advice Glen - if not for your lessons over the years I'd not have improved or played anything different. I still have a lot to learn but am so much better than I was, and I definitely enjoy the learning process!

I know when I'm playing and not practicing because when I'm learning something, i start playing everything but the song I'm learning

My dad used to listen to me practicing on the guitar rig HE bought me as a teen, and he would always say, "That is nice, but when are you going to play.... A SONG??" Many years since, I never practice bits and pieces, but PRACTICE WHOLE SONGS. Intro to the END. But I try to experiment with differing positions, changing the arrangements. It makes it lots more interesting for the songs I've played a thousand times. Most of the icons rarely played their own songs exactly the same way in concerts, so why do cover musicians try to play the exact recorded versions, night after night?? Great videos, G

Good point about some pro musicians playing different interpretations of the same songs live - Neil Young is a case in point.

Sage advice. I know a lot of players who use a capo instead of barring chords.
