The man from Essex gives us two fingers and a rich basket filled with useful musical phrases. Music as a language. How succinct and eloquent. The most valuable 13 minutes anyone learning guitar will get this week. A big thank you Glen. Gold dust

that analogy of words without a conversation was perfect.
@oases6862Ай бұрын
Very good explanation. Exactly where I am now, know some scales but no musical sentences yet. Thanks Glen 👍

This makes a lot of sense. When I run out of ideas, which is often, I go back to doing exactly what you show here. It's really good advice. "Do a lot with a little....not a little with a lot" ;)

A man with great knowledge. Blues soling could listen to all day.knows what it's about and talks straight. Well done
@isayoldchap1Ай бұрын
The question and answer type of stuff sounds easy when someone else is doing it, but I struggle with it. BB King always talked about having a conversation with his guitar. Sometimes his voice would ask the question and his guitar would answer. Without that call and response phrasing it can just sound like a boring jumble of notes. Just like it's important to leave little spaces and alter the dynamics from soft to loud. Thanks for this Glen. I love your no-nonsense approach to teaching and enjoy seeing your patient approach to teaching. I'm going to give your backing track a go.

Tension then release. Ever tried 12 bar blues without the turnaround of B7. ?
@29memyselfandi28 күн бұрын
Same as that……… by the way did you ever listen to BB with Gary Moore doing The Thrill is gone ? Call and response perfection.
@markward5845Ай бұрын
Great lesson thanks Glen………. The learning a foreign language analogy really hit home with me, I been shying away from learning solos I love but that now gonna change 🎸🎶

Santana, Eric Clapton, BB King, Ace Man. This was a great lesson showing that slowing things down and knowing timing you can create a beautiful solo with flava and than add to it if you wish to expand like he said. You could sound like the greats if you pay attention to this lesson.

Great lesson ... simple licks and economy of space between them ... great recipe! Plus your licks were very musical and within my beginners reach ... "Grazie Glen!

Easily the best guitar lesson I have ever seen. Every beginner should be made to watch this video before being let loose onto the internet and it's confusing mass of very excellent but often intimidating lessons. What you have encapsulated here is a sense of perspective. The value of 'less is more' and how much more important it is to have a sense for the music rather than a vast technical knowledge and ability. Those can be grown over time. I've been messing about jamming blues at home for years but that first example solo really blew me away. You could almost build an entire career purely from watching this one video. Thank you to KZbin for putting Glen Parish in the list of suggested videos. I have subscribed and will be watching more from you in between periods spent on my current project which is learning Eric Clapton's Beano album version of Hideaway.👍

How easy is this to understand, I've watched thousands of hours of videos like this and I can honestly say that you are the first person to switch on a light in my head, for the first time I can see how easy it is to make sweet music without scales by just improvising with some good licks, thankyou very very much now I can enjoy playing rather than always thinking I need more practice

I'm a new subscriber, just ran into this video by accident and it woke me up. I haven't played in about 30 yrs. I have always had problems with lead And jumping in a songs etc. which kept me always playing rhythm and frustrated and this video seems so easy and it makes me think in a different way about playing. I still have my ivory Fender Telecaster and may pick it back up and give this a try. Thanks Again

Great concept. I noticed you use the guitar hangers with that black rubber material that comes in contact with the guitar finish. Have you ever had it mar the finish? I found a solution. Temu sells a finger protector for use in the kitchen when cutting with a knife. I cut the end so they can slide over the arm and protect the finish of the headstock. The guitar sits quite cozy on them.

a minor pentatonic over all minor chords works 100% of the time. a third finger comes in when you use major chords.
