Just heard the absolutely horrible, devastating news that our beloved Guitar Genius Eddie Van Halen has passed. We can't contain our tears, such an incredible Artist. He gave my son one of his guitars, it reads ‘To Charlie!! Play It Loud & Drive Your Dad Crazy’. An amazing talent who shaped music forever. R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen. Our prayers are with your family.

Well said. If you can put on something like "I'm the one" and still think Eddie's spirit is gone, it's prob your spirit that's gone. Btw, spirits often attach themselves to their photographs & possessions. Naitve Americsns understood this, that's why they never allowed their picture to be taken. Ed's ENTIRE heart & soul is forever imprinted on Van Halen music. Whether you're listening to the tracks or playing it on a guitar, Ed's spirit is there with you. (Love You Ed! Thanks For All The Joy & Passion You Brought Into My Life. I'll See You In Heaven Big Brother!)

In late '77 we saw Black Sabbath and the opening act was Van Halen. Eddie's playing just knocked me over, it was like an alien had landed. When Sabbath came on, the audience was not having any of Ozzy's drunk shenanigans and piled the chairs in front of the stage and walked off. I ran home and got the first record and my life has never been the same. Eddie made all of the guitarists of the day rethink their approach to guitar playing and the race was on. NO guitar player since then has done half as much for the instrument. And now just one day later, he's gone. RIP

I also saw them open for Black Sabbath at The Bayfront Center in St Petersburg, FL. . Van Halen blew the roof off the place, just incredible. Black Sabbath came out and was the worst band I've ever seen. They were tuning their guitars during the show for like 20 minutes. Polar opposites. RIP EVH.

Eddie's rhythm playing and specially his PHRASING AND SWING are absolutely unmatched when you compare him to his contemporaries. I mean, when you hear a solo like the one one Bottom's Up, it's clear he focused on his phrasing as much as the flashy technical stuff when he was wood shedding. Love Ed.

Its amazing how so many extremely talented guitarists still miss the nuances of Eddie's playing when copying him. The "I'm the one" tutorial in this video completely misses the whole swing feel of the song. How can you get all those notes right, get so many of the riff parts right, but still miss this? Its the most important part. Its the whole feel of the song.

Hey. this comment is for Warrent, and jamie. Warrent i liked how you hosted and reported on Eddie, and a gave the full picture of his musical uniqueness, life, music and achievements all along his way! And Jamie, i thought your playing and sound was really very good too! ( wanted to mention though, that Eddie did not read music, know theory, or know scales, chords, or modes at all!! and infact played everything by ear! ) Great job and great tribute! Thank you ~ Cheers!

The timing of this video, the timing of recent reminiscing about my days first starting on guitar to "live without a net" and watching Eddie incessantly every day while I picked up my passion....It all hurts a lot but seeing how much he meant to everyone is beautiful. A legend, and a hero of ours. Eddie Van Halen

Man I'm glad I'm The One was mentioned. It's such an underrated song. Mad frustrating to learn. Its got everything, shuffle, tapping, harmonics, solo cage system, so much. It's a school of a song. It's the single song responsible for me picking up the guitar. RIP Eddie. Everytime my playing drives my wife mad it's thanks to you.

This was a truly excellent vid. I'm not into the band, nor Eddie, and never really have been, however, the playing and sound in this video were absolutely beautiful - so much so that I nearly cried (literally) when listening to the 'Jump' solo where the ascending half/whole tone scale finally resolved. It is melodically and harmonically perfect and gives the listener such strong positive feelings and is almost life affirming in it's phrasing.

And just remember kid's, this guy was doing this 40 years ago... put that in your head and get smoked !!!!!!! My brother put a set of headphones on me in 1978, and when Eddie Van Halen came in after the intro to " Runnin with the Devil " I got goosebumps, and adrenaline started racing through my veins. I wanted to become a singer, like He made that guitar sing . My condolences to the world for their loss, including the ones that don't even know it.
