In this Poison guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this smash hit by Alice Cooper note-for-note.
The opening riff is instantly recognizable, but requires a pretty large stretch to play. This riff moves around quite a bit as well and could be quite the challenge for even an intermediate level player.
Next up, we have the second half of the verse which is an arpeggiated picking sequence across some Sus2 chords. You'll want to make sure that these notes are palm muted so that that they think cut through the mix better.
The pre-chorus uses a ton of power chords and what will probably be one of the longest chord progressions you'll ever play in a rock song. These cords work perfect with the vocals and it is a really cool buildup to the chorus.
The course is very similar to the main intro riff except the ending is a little bit altered.
The main guitar solo uses a lot of whammy bar dives (sorry about it pulling the guitar out of tune during the first phrase of the solo). After that, the solo moves into a blues based lick followed by a fast ascending run. You will see this played a number of ways, but I chose to base my fingering of this lick off of the way Al Pitrelli played it on the tour for the Trash album.
Even though Pitrelli wasn't the guitarist on the original recording, I feel this is the closest we can get to how that lick is actually played.
I decided not to do a note-for-note lesson of the outro solo since it is not only long, but underneath the chorus anyway. For the outro solo, I recommend just improvising in D minor.

Love this channel; great tutorials that are at a good pace, not too fast but also not too slow like some others I've seen and Carl definitely has the knowledge & skill as well as the perfect temperament that make him a really effective teacher. I'm going to check out the website later I keep getting, on others' videos too, not just this one, one particular "skippable" after 5 sec ad for Tony Polecastro's guitar lessons; it's a bit over 2 minutes long and says "the bouncy ball approach, etc...". I get this ad constantly and just this specific ad, almost invariably, 90% of the time (I began keeping track after the first 4 or 5 times) begins the countdown to skip the ad but then freezes at 3 or 2 seconds while the rest of the ad's audio continues over the locked up page for a while until it too stops. Then it's another 20 sec or so until the "wait or exit" message & I can finally exit, go back, & reload the video. Does this happen to anyone else with this specific ad? ** It just happened again when I refreshed this page & I noticed that it froze this time just as he is saying he wants you to "go ahead and hit skip now if ...something, something...." and I'm talking back to him telling him that I would like to but I can't. Again. It would almost be funny too, if this ad didn't appear as often as it does, beginning with the now quite familiar sound of Tony Polecastro's voice, taunting me once again like a harbinger of impending doom. I don't even mind the ads; often I just let them play or go past 30 sec mark & skip, but as soon as I hear that voice I know I'm screwed for a few minutes until it clears. I guess it's due to the content I watch, that I see this ad so very frequently.

I think they use a distortion pedal which is different from overdrive (amp distortion) check out Marty's video on distortion, overdrive and fuzz
