I just wish she explained the relationship on WHY these shapes are used. You learn open chords first for a reason. Every six string major/minor bar chord uses the shape of the open E chords! Go ahead and play an E major open chord, notice how the shape is the exact same as the bar chords. You’re moving the nut by barring the fret. This is such essential knowledge to know. She’s throwing patterns and not explaining anything about them which confuses beginners by no fault of their own. Once you understand this, it all clicks and makes perfect sense. The same applies to the open A major/Minor chord. If you move the nut by barring, you can play a major/minor chord anywhere on the fretboard using those SAME shapes in ANY key.

I am a Kovid beginner and have wanted to get to Bare chords may be too soon. I was not only holding my finger at the wrong angle but trying to use too much thumb. I have an old thumb injury and it has made my middle finger stronger than the pointer or index finger.

Good tips. As a Guitar Teacher of close to 40 years the biggest issue I have found with students is placement of the wrist and palm. While some chords you can get away with having the thumb on top of the neck (although not usually recommended but there are times it's required) and the palm touching the neck, with Barre Chords I always tell students I should be able to slip 2 fingers between the Thumb and Index finger as well as between the palm and the neck of the Guitar. In other words the wrist and the palm need to be down and away from the neck otherwise there is absolutely no way the Index finger can make a straight "bar"...aka Barre. In close to 40 years of teaching literally thousands of students I have never met a player who's hand did not work that way.

Sentences start with a capital letter. Your second sentence is run-on. Try Subject Verb Object. Also, "I'm at the intermediate stage as a guitar recitalist and jam player". Re-read, rethink and reconsider before pushing, "Send". Also, women are mostly smooth muscle. Women are not really supposed to have biceps. Your Rosy, the Riveter cartoon violates the doctrine of percentage development of the arm. The arm is a complex system. Overdeveloping one part of the arm leads to an unproportioned, over-allotted brachial system. Are you really a woman? Why do you wish to look like a man? Did something happen when you were three years old? What do you say, "Crackajack"? Near Antonyms for crackerjack incapable, incompetent, inept, unable, unfit, unfitted, unqualified, weak artless, crude, rude ineffective, ineffectual, inefficient talentless, ungifted, untalented ignorant, unschooled, untaught, untrained, untutored beginning, green, inexperienced, new, raw, unseasoned, untested, untried, would-be primitive, rough, unpolished awkward, clumsy, ham-fisted, ham-handed, heavy-handed amateur, amateurish, inexperienced, inexpert, jackleg, unprofessional, unseasoned, unskilled, unskillful bad, inferior, low-grade, substandard, unsatisfactory mediocre, middling, second-class, second-rate Antonyms for crackerjack atrocious, awful, execrable, lousy, pathetic, poor, rotten, terrible, vile, wretched P.S. - What would Beethoven think of you?

I just discovered you. I’m so grateful for your instruction. When I was 12 I was forced to learn to play, and it went badly. Still I kept what I learned (cowboy chords 😂) but when it was time to progress to bar chords, I hit a brick wall. No one ever taught me, and I didn’t ask. But tonight I accidentally found this. When you showed the “6-4-1-5” chord progression my jaw literally dropped open. True story. I never knew there was an exercise I could practice. Now I can. I’m now 59 years old. Thank you forever. I'm 58 and just started to learn to play guitar when covid hit us hard. My hubby is a firefighter and I have auto immune diseases so Dr.s orders were he couldn't come near me since he was dealing with covid patients. We have been together for 17 yrs and never are apart and madly in love so this was just extremely difficult. I decided I'd learn the guitar as a distraction and maybe even play him music since he had to stay in the basement. I can play like crazy now! I've watched your videos before but couldn't find you again. I am sooo ready to watch all your videos! Your my inspiration! Thank you for this lesson. A lot of online guitar instructional videos that say they are for beginners but then goes off into theory to the point that many beginners eyes begin to glaze over. This video just showed the chords so a person can at least get started and then maybe figure out why things work if they so choose...

I think an easy way to help explain the major bar chord is to keep the last 3 fingers in the shape of an E chord all the way up the fret board and imagining your first finger as the movable nut. And for the minor chord, just lifting off the middle finger. Good job!

I have a long-time left wrist injury that has made barre chord shapes difficult. However, your tip about not using so much thumb pressure really helped. I also find using the "classical position" helpful to relieve the strain I get due to a semi-fused wrist. Thanks for your excellent instruction.

Great. Finally a simple straightforward explanation of how to barre. Learning how to barre is I think the most off putting thing for beginner players after they’ve kind of mastered. So your guitar gets put in the corner glaring at you for being lazy and useless. Also we get the bonus of extending barre chords to chord progressions - all in a quarter hour lesson. Yup.
