I follow Claus' path of guitar mastery for years now and his insights and thorough explanations always made his lessons very valuable. Keep up the great work, Claus! Your views on practising and focusing on one thing apply actually to so many things in life, they are a valuable lesson!

This is an extremely good channel, tired of other "lessons" on youtube where they require you to download their homemade tab but only if you subscribe to a monthly thing.

Wow!! I can’t believe what a difference this made for me. I had just learned how to do economy/sweep picking a few days ago. The hard part is getting the feel for it but once you get it, it’s pretty easy. Took me about a day to get comfortable to where I could play basic scales. I was searching on KZbin for some exercises to get better at it and found your video. I started working on the scale pattern and it took me half a day just to memorize the damn thing because there are so many notes and it’s so long. Once I memorized it, I started practicing it and it came fairly easy but I was not fast at all. I did what you said and started playing the first eight notes of the pattern over and over very slowly to a metronome being sure I was picking accurately and clean. I would set a timer for three minutes at a certain tempo, stop and play it a little faster for three minutes take a little break do it again, take a break do it again. By the end of the day I was playing faster than I ever have before. The very next day I was able to play the entire pattern very fast then, all the sudden all the exercises that I have been practicing in the past that I struggled with started flowing easy. In just a few days I have completely transformed my guitar playing. I absolutely cannot believe this exercise help me like that. I think the main thing is, was just focusing on a certain pattern and playing it over and over for three minutes and stopping and repeating. That made all the difference in the world. I can’t thank you enough for posting this video you have completely transformed my playing in just 3 days!!

Ahoy, Claus! I am one of those who now has "a little more time at home". Spent a great deal of time working on alternate picking, so maybe now is the time to build a complementary skill. Your video (and tabs) really spells out the challenges of directional picking. Very nice! Stay well, brother!

This might sound like a weird one. But have you ever done a video on getting back in the mood to play when you just can't "feel" the beat at all? I swear every time I come back from the gym my ability to stay in time, or even remember what notes I'm playing goes completely out of the window. Sometimes I get it after working, or driving too. I get that your brain's still in "I'm going to die if I don't lift this weight off me" mode, but there's gotta be a faster way to get over it, other than just waiting it out.

Hi. If you don't mind , I'd like to offer a suggestion for you. I have the same problem with "feeling" the beat after a long day at work. What has usually helped is getting relaxed by sitting on the nice comfy couch , breathing slow and deep for a few minutes , and then just focusing on the "pretend" beat in my head. Then I imagine playing very simple Scale Shapes very slowly to my imaginary "Beat". Then take a while 10 minute break that has absolutely nothing to do with Music. Then grab your Guitar and get rolling. I realize different approaches work for different people. Just thought it might be worth a shot for you. If not , I hope you find a solution soon. But never let it discourage you because you might be the next Eddy or Yngwie. Noone knows , including you. And last thing , I hope I didn't cross any lines by sticking my nose in. Have a great night. 🎸

My take on that issue is to start your guitar session with FUN. Play 15-20 minutes what makes you feel comfortable and gives you the mood to play more. When you feel you can start training routine or learning new things do it then.

You make it look so easy! I keep getting stuck at a certain speed and I can't go any faster and I don't know why? I keep practicing and practicing and I just can't speed up! 🥴

Thanks for the valuable lesson brudda, and thanks for the tabs too, but I think the tab goes haywire on the run going down the G string. Figured out the pattern though and will practice my scales this way. Thanks again!

Claus, It would be great to hear you do a song or just rip for a while on a back track,,,,,

Hell yeah !! I'd love to hear something that he wrote or improvised just to show us how well he plays. Plus , after seeing and hearing dozens of Lessons during the last couple of years , I really can't even imagine how his personal playing style would sound. But I'd definitely love to hear it. 🎸

I'm learning a "power lick" from one of your courses. I can remember it fully, play it clean and for now at a somewhat slow tempo. (Which is also a question....matching these licks up to a metronome?? I think I'm getting it, but I'm always scared of doing something wrong and practicing it incorrectly. Time it with triplets or 16th notes??) Lol Anyways, would you consider, if done correctly and no mistakes. A "power lick" a loopable exercise for Netflix practice, or should it still be broken down into smaller parts?? Thanks for everything Claus!! You've transformed my way of going about learning this awesome instrument.
@senorcitizeng4844 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you've got a good mindset already. I've benefited greatly from the TV/Netflix practice when it comes to the mechanical stuff like building in patterns. If you can play 12 notes from one of those power licks perfectly, then I would say make that your loopable exercise as long as it helps you focus on the technique you want to get down because it's short enough to really master but long enough to be interesting. But. this is just my 1 cent adjusted for recent economic developments. Happy practicing!

Dude I love this but I agree it's too fast at times. I'm an intermediate and even I was like pfff guess I can't follow along w guitar in hand. Pausing/rewinding over and over takes me out of practice mode

Hi mate quick question, as I’m a metal player I default to practicing excercises with distortion, do you benifit from practicing excercises with a clean tone? I’m wondering if the clarity will come out the same when applying it back to a distorted to for shredding etc. Thanks for the vids you’re a good guy mate
@rmckee224 жыл бұрын
I used to do the same thing (practicing with distortion) but then I switched to practicing it clean and it makes all the difference in the world. Once you go back to distortion it sounds even better because you’re playing so much cleaner.

Hard to follow on video when you say all the numbers so fast. I wish there was a diagram of chord positions or fret numbers on the video. But looks like a good exercise once I figure it out..
