I have their hendrix strat and it easily has the best neck of any guitar I have ever owned and I am 58 years old and into and playing guitars since I was about 16. To some degree just the feeling in my hands reminds me of a 1964 Gibson SG I had when I was in my mid 20s. Obviously I am not talking about the tone but just the tactile feeling of the wood of the SG. These are awsome guitars for the money. It can be hard to find them online. I got mine in a pawnshop. I had no idea about the company previously.

I’ve had a vintage V6, Thomas Blug strat that has some pretty trick wiring in it also from the factory. It’s a copy of a 61 Strat. I love it plays beautiful..My only complaint with vintage guitars is I wish they’d used a harder nickel in their frets seem to be wearing the frets out kinda quickly. They’ve been around for quite a while, I totally get where you’re coming from with the name though. Great review as always keep it up and thanks

"Vantage" was a brand from the old Matsumoku factory in Japan - the name was sold to Samick in Korea after the japanese factory fire. - The Japanese ones are epic and the Korean ones solid decent kit. I bought a couple of Vintage guitars used and I love them. One is a gold top LP style. It had Wilkinson stacked P90’s in it and they sounded good, but when I converted my Gibson LP Deluxe to a P90 (Mojotone Quiet Coil P90’s), I had my tech put the Gibson mini humbuckers in the Vintage along with 50’s wiring, CTS pots, Orange Drop caps, etc., and it’s now every bit as good as a Gibson. In fact, I think my Vintage feels closer to a Gibson than the Epiphone 59 LP I had with Gibson BB pups in it. I also have a Vintage SG style (VS6 I think is the model) with a vibrola and I put a Gibson 490R/T set from my LP Tribute when I put some Mojotone ‘59 clones in it and it’s also a great guitar. I would buy another Vintage and recommend them without hesitation. New ones are reasonably priced and you can often find great deals on used ones.

I’ve had a few Vintage models for years (V100 lemon drop and V100 gold top with P90s, an original V60 that got them in trouble with Gibson and the redesigned model). I’ve also sold a ton, as they set up beautifully, as they’re basically well made budget guitars. The Icon series is a step up in quality. I picked up a V6 recently, with three P90s, in a Strat configuration. Great sound with a really lovely neck.

It is a great signature guitar. Trev Wilkerson owns vintage and all of his parts are used on these guitars. One of the reasons why these are so good.
@mopel26012 жыл бұрын
I’ve had 3 of these 2 strats and a “lemon drop” relic’d Les Paul. All were great guitars (that I eventually got rid of to get the “real thing”. They all played and sounded great. I had 2 V6 and at the same time a mim player strat. I never touched the player strat again once I got the v6’s. They just felt and sounded so much better than the player strat. That said, I would never buy one of these new. You can get them all day long for $200-$300 bucks. If you buy a new one for $599, the minute you take it out of the box it’s worth $300. The player strat I bought as a floor demo, kept it for 2 years and sold it for a little more than I paid for it. So, my only advice is get a used one.

I have a Vintage V6 icon SSS strat and it sounds better than any sub 1.5k Fender I’ve tried in a store. The finish and attention to detail was in some places sloppy, with a nut that stuck out a bit and some paint on the neck that needed sanding, but after fixing those things the guitar is smooth and much more inspiring than its Squier or MIM strat counterparts. It made me love strats again -- the neck pickup nails it, and the bridge pickup is highly usable and versatile thanks to it having its own dedicated tone knob (no more ice-pick tone unless you want it). HOWEVER, the quality control on these guitars is extremely variable, so I would recommend only buying these guitars either a) from an online store with its own strict QC, or b) after seeing the actual guitar first. I once went to a store that had 3 Vintage T-style guitars and 2 Vintage strats: the T-style guitars didn’t feel that good and one of the strats was embarrassingly badly put together, while the other strat was the BEST strat I’ve ever played in a store, beautifully finished, very stratty and perfect in every way (and the same price as all the others, go figure). I also just tried a Vintage T-style in the used section of a Guitar Center and it was more inspiring to me than any of the Fenders (or other guitars I tried in that store, period), and I’m strongly considering going back and buying it, even though I don't normally like teles. As another KZbinr has said, they make the best guitars for the money and the worst guitars for the money - definitely worth checking out and worth the risk to get a good one.

I have previously owned 2 further VInage guitars, the V6 JMH (which I sold to someone learning as their first electric) and an AV6 (excellent guitar I should never have sold). Vintage guitars are superb, I always buy one before buying a Fender because I just can't bring myself to pay for the name. The V58JD is so good it completely negated my intense dislike of Tele's! I have owned 5 or 6 different models over the years and currently have a Vintage Lemon Drop (with the Peter Green out-of-phase sound as standard). As good as any Les Paul I have had. I happen to agree with you about the name though. I always thought that they should simply be called Wilkinson since Trev Wilkinson was behind the design. His name carries much more "heft" and makes more sense.BTW there was a company called "Vantage". They were made in Korea and I have one!!
@gthomson80652 жыл бұрын
Just a clarification, Vantage was originally made in Japan in the 70s and 80s by Matsumoku, the same maker that produced Aria and other top notch brands. It went out of business in the late eighties and the rights to the “Vantage” brand was purchased by a Korean company. The original MIJ Vantages are awesome. The Korean ones aren’t as good but still solid.

I don't love the icon series because the relicage is not good..... if you see it from distance it's well ,but it's very fake when you have the guitar on hand ... I prefer the "standard series" . Anyway i love this brand ! Thanks for the video . take care.

@@solaris70 my squier strat have SSH configuration ,all pickups are duncan design , the bridge pickups is very similar to a JB pickup ( i have a real one JB on one of my strats and it's almost sound the same ) , i have the obey design with the snake (monochrome design) , i'm searching the second design (more patchwork with a red colors on it ) , it's a very good squier and the look is awesome ! all hardware part are relicing ! i have squier from china and indonesia ,and for me all indonesian are more better than china models ,but china models are not bad , but more quality hardware , better setting out of box and better QC on indonesian models . all obey is from indonesia ! 🙂

Vintage guitars have been around for many years here in the Uk, they are distributed by JHS. If you can find an older sample with genuine Wlikinson parts they are a serious affordable alternative to Fenders crazy priced samples that players go for. Be wary of the more recent samples, Trevor Wilkinson no longer visits the factory and an alarming quantity are available on ebay with cosmetic defects, but a lot have cracks at the neck pocket, inspect before you buy. Find a good one, and for the price they will give any Fender a hard time beating it.

I have a Laguna blue Vintage Advance AV6 superstrat. Bought in 2008 just after they went out of production. A rock solid guitar. Stays in tune no matter how hard you abuse the trem and sounds great. It has 3 soapbar humbuckers with a roll off control for that classic Fender surf tone. Whats not to like.

I had a double cut LP style back in the Day from Vintage. Mainly because I was playing with the guitar market heavier from like 2014-2017 and using Wilkinson parts in stuff for fun. Thing was king of a boat anchor but was a nice instrument. Could pretty much only get it from a distributor in Texas then haha For some reason it makes me think of the days where you could snag MIMs on Craigslist for under $300. Good times.
