I was in my teens when Glen and Roy Clark fired me up to get a guitar and learn hybrid picking. For years, I practiced from sheet music, trying to get the melody, a bass line, and some harmony. I also use my pinky (yes you can - people touch type). Hybrid is very rewarding, eventually. I have lately begun working on classical style tremolo "butterfly" picking too, but may have started that too late in life.

Thom, love the video as always, some more fantastic slide playing you may not know (as you are half my age) is from one of my favourite 70's band NAZARETH, the guitarist is MANNY CHARLTON and the track is a cover of a RY COODER song "VIGILANTE MAN ", the other track is one of NAZARETH'S own compositions "BAD BAD BOY". Keep up the good work buddy and take care.

better in your opinion... I don't hink that Page made anything better than Beck. The Truth album is as good as the 1st Led Zep in the notes of Beck-Ola Beck wrote something regarding how all the heavy-blues bands were proliferating and how he was quitting the genre. I believe he was implying that he started it all, first with The Yardbirds and then with Truth, but he was too humble to say "I paved this path for you, do it better if you can" I don't think anybody bested those 2 first Beck recordings. And Page ripped off from him everything he could. Even when Beck left The Yardbirds, Page was influenced so much by Beck that I can't even think on Page not being like a different ramification of Beck's style. At least until Led Zep III In that album Page became Page fully

Fun note: You Shook Me appeared on Led Zeppelin I- Jimmy Page is known for playing a Les Paul, but the electric parts of the first album were all played on a Telecaster…EXCEPT for You Shook Me. Somebody was trying to sell Jimmy a Gibson Flying V at the time, and You Shook Me was recorded on that Flying V. The humbucker pickups on that guitar made the small Supro amp Jimmy used break up very easily, resulting in that songs very heavy and distorted tone.
