Should I like this? Wait, you are playing the band that helped keep me out of Viet Nam. And yet my friends that had to go to Viet Nam were also listening to CCR. This was a band that was a product of their times, but also they contributed to breaking the mold of those times. The Military Industrial Complex was eating us up alive, as well as lots of Bayou Rats around the world, and John and CCR played meaningful music that move people. You do that as well. You are a Guitar Master, Pilgrim. You send that mood and can move people. Ok, I will smash that like button. My only regret is that I can only like it once.

A single Strat or Tele style guitar is all you need really. They are both far more versatile guitars than humbucker-loaded models such as Gibson in my opinion.

John Fogerty is a GREAT example of how you don't have to be some insane virtuoso playing licks that only a few people on the planet can play in order to play a great solo!

CCR was one of those rare bands that put out albums with no fillers. I genuinely like almost every song they ever recorded. Back when we would buy an album because of one amazing song and often realize that there's only one song on the entire album that we love, CCR was the exception.

"Ramble Tamble" blows every single one of those away. So darkly sad and sublime sounding. "Ramble Tamble" starts off as a typical CCR Rockabilly style stomp but then when the guitar solo instrumental section in the middle comes on out of nowhere is is absolutely stunning. Fogerty's epic high water mark I say.

Man, you are my favorite guitar demonstrator on the web, not only because of the sheer energy and skill that goes into your playing, but also (and important) is that you keep the chat to a minimum to simply explain what is needed. So many others waffle on for what seems like hours before actually playing anything.

Yes, John should get more git cred, just on that solo alone. He never did but. But he should have, same with Q, Grapevine and Chooglin. Everything right where it should be, same in Green River. Don't know why he 'talks down' most of his earlier playing now that he tries to play like Brad Paisely. He should be proud of it's gritty earthiness.

When I was a young punk kid, starting to sing in rock bands, (1970's) I thought John Fogarty was only an "OK" guitar player. Eventually I came to realize that he can do more with three notes than a lot of players can do with the entire guitar. And he created his own, distinct sound . Not many can make that claim. Much respect. Also, much respect to you sir, for your incredible playing and enthusiasm!

@@CorbCorbin Don't confuse CCR' S legal battles and later name calling with how well they worked as a band. John was the driving force by his own choice. But good music is only good music until the right players meld together, and CCR certainly melding and became one of America's greatest bands. Having had the pleasure of seeing them onstage, I was lucky enough to witness the interplay first hand. That'd the true test of a great band.

This video popped up in my KZbin recommendation for... reason. John Fogerty is such a great guitarist, very understated and also underrated. When I started learning how to play the guitar, certain CCR songs were the staples of my practice. My favorite has to be "Tombstone Shadow". That single note part of the second solo is almost a religious experience to me!

SUPER tutorial, Thom! I first tried to learn Lodi, start to finish (with intro, fills, bridge, & solo) when I was 16. I had a Sears Silvertone Strat and an embarrassing, southern-engineered amplification system that I, to this day, refuse to call an amplifier. I struggled with Lodi but I nailed Born on the Bayou! That was 1970. Over the years, I learned several of the songs but you’ve inspired me to return to that catalogue and master all 10 of those songs. Thanks!

THANK YOU for this episode!!! You are an incredible talent and you deserve so much credit for noticing the underrated genius of John Fogerty on guitar. I have been telling people for years that the solo of the Credence version of "I Put a Spell on You" is, all considered, perhaps the greatest and certainly the most under-appreciated guitar solo. I say this because the solo tells a story of an anguished mind filled with dismay, rage and insanity. To create a solo that fits the song so perfectly in terms of the narrator / main character is simply unparalleled. When I saw the title of your video I thought, "He's got to choose "I Put a Spell on You" as number one, but what if he doesn't!? And you did!!! Thanks!
