I’ve gotten a lot of requests to redo this video. The original was done long before this page became popular. At the time, I was just using quick videos to help my local students practice at home. This one really deserves the better production quality and accurate tab! Lots of notes on this one: INTRO DELAY Took a lot of messing around to get the delay to where I thought it was right. One trick is to not palm mute the very first note. You could add more feedback to the delay settings on your end if you wish the notes to echo for a longer period of time. For those with Amplitube or just wanting to see my settings, check out my Patreon page. SWING Fills in measure 19 and 57 has the classic Slash 16th note swing. So be sure to swing those licks as much as you can. I didn’t get that right in my initial video. SOLO POSITIONS With Solos 1 and 2, I believe the positions and all that are correct from what I could see from live performances. Live, he plays some of those licks with hammer ons and pull offs, but the bends are in there in the studio version. Forgive my 1 finger double stop vibrato on the 12th fret in measure 49. Jason always nails those with utmost natural flair, but it’s a weakness of mine that I’m working on. SLIDES A slide magically appeared on my pinky finger in measure 102 😅I studied the slides from the isolated track, but in the recording, they cut out when guitar riff in measure 107 kicks in. Slash does this live too instead of doing all of the slides. There’s subsequently more slides happening while the riffing is going on in measures 108 - 110. We could have added them to the tab, but I really wanted to avoid messy screen tabs with multiple pictures. CHORUS FILLS Also, there are some fills with delay in the chorus, but I didn’t feel it was necessary to tab those. Slash doesn’t play those live. They are all in the backing track I created, so check that out - it’s fun to play along with. POWER CHORDS In measure 131, I played the power chords with the added Major thirds in them, which is what I hear prominently in the mix. It’s possible that these are overdubs. I put them in brackets to show you what I mean in the tab. I like playing them because it sounds like the song, but if you feel it’s tricky to get them in, just do the power chords - which is what I think Slash plays live. That, or he possibly plays single notes - whatever floats your boat! For the last chord, I am hearing an Em7 (which is what I have tabbed there), not E7#9 (which is what many suggested). My ears aren’t hearing the major third in there, or it could be just buried in the mix. E7#9 is the cool funky chord in the verse of Hendrix’s Purple Haze. There’s also an overdubbed root note with delay happening over that chord. It’s gradually tuned down with the tuning peg as it lowers in pitch. I feel like I got all of the most important things from the studio version in here. I tried to stay as close as possible to the original, as well taking into account what they do in their live performances. This one is super fun to jam along with, so be sure to check out the backing track and tones on Patreon. Enjoy!

I learned half this album from you in the past day, solos and all. I dare say I'm a bit impressed with myself, though admittedly I'm not nailing it as well as you do yet. But I'm continually impressed by how good Slash's phrasing was at just 22-years-old when he recorded this in the early part of 1987. Studying Slash is a masterclass of good hard rock lead guitar playing. I don't know your age or if you would be familiar with it, but early Def Leppard was too. Like the High N Dry album. I think you might appreciate that type of hard rock lead playing if you dig this. I think High N Dry and AFD are 2 of the very best albums in hard rock history, but I digress. Anyways, great channel, man. I just recently found it. You totally rock!

What’s the picking technique for the intro? I’ve been playing years and still struggle with hitting those strings so smoothly - maybe I just never learned to alternate pick properly. If anyone has advice or insight on how to practice getting better at alternate picking of strings in that manner I’d appreciate it.
@Mr.Tabs.Guitar.Lessons3 ай бұрын
Just straight up alternate picking. Up and down consistently. Palm muted, accented a little on the open string. I feel the open string is still very slightly palm muted but not so much as the rest of the notes. I can't remember how exactly I improved at alternate picking because it was so long ago. But I know that I slowed down EVERYTHING until I could play it perfectly at that tempo and then gradually sped it up with a metronome.
@UrosVuksanovic-g6j3 ай бұрын
So if these are the tabs of the intro we are playing: e-------------------------------------------------------------------------| B ---0----------0-----------0----------0--------0------0---------0-| G-4----4----2----2----------------------------------------------------| D--------------------------4-----4---2-----2-----0-------------------| A----------------------------------------------------------------2-------| E--------------------------------------------------------------------------| I personally go a downstroke on the G 4th fret, up on the 0 B and up again on the 4G, and so you just repeat that pattern so that after each 404 or 202 your pick goes up, except on the 0D and the 2A because there you just repeat the not 0B note once. So it goes something like this: (I recommend you looking up this comment on your phone cause the tabs might not fit all onto a phone screen and it looks like a mess. e----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| B -----------------0(up)--------------------------------0(up)------------------------------0(up)------------------------------0(up)------------------------------------0(up)---------------------0(up)-| G-4(down)-------------4(up)------2(down)--------------2(up)---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| D----------------------------------------------------------------------------------4(down)-----------4(up)----2(down)--------------2(up)-----0(down)----------------------------------------------| A-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------2(down)---------------| E----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| Its basically just an escalating pattern with your picking hand with the goal being that your pick hand always is going in the direction of the next note. For example if you are going from 2A to 0B the goal is for you to pick the 2A with a downstroke so it ends up nearer to the 0B. Same goes for when going from 0B to for example 4D, the point is to upstroke the 0B so that your pick is going upwards and reaches the 4D faster, because if you were to downstroke the 0B you would end up closer to the high E string than to the B string. Hope this made sense, if you need any more help with this part just ask! (Most of the edits were me fucking up the tabs and editing them back)
