Hey guys! Thanks for requesting this awesome MJ hit and this is definitely my favourite tune by him not only because it rocks but because it has an amazing Eddie Van Halen guitar solo in there. RIP Eddie. Steve Lukather played the rhythm parts in this tune and I wanted to double check on his positioning. You can check out what he’s doing here at kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqaUqHWrbqiVmKs. I will have to note that he’s sliding the second part of this riff (the rhythmic double stops) near the end of the video, however in the studio recording, I’m hearing it being picked each time. One thing I tried to get when tabbing this solo was the crooked whammy bar release at the start. Which was one of the tougher parts for me. And also getting the second tap harmonic because I’m not using an amplifier cranked. Whammy bar dives, Pinch Harmonics, Tremolo Picking, fretboard tapping, this solo has all the cool techniques and it is also amazingly phrased. Even if you get everything right, it’s really hard to sound like Eddie Van Halen. And it’s crazy to think that he could do all that and at the same time, run around on stage and do back flips or whatnot. Have fun with this! That and the second opening phrasing has to be picked not tapped. And the whammy-bar in the middle is finger-bent by most people because they can't handle the whammy at high speeds. This solo rocks, this version is spot on except for the crescendo where he misses at the 221nd fret once.

It's funny - some people see tapping and think it's an easy cheat - after 30 years of rock guitar playing I can testify whole-heartedly that is NOT !!! It is INCREDIBLY difficult to make the sound "just right" and master the coordination of speed and string changes with the sometimes impossibly awkward stretches necessary to hit the proper notes !!! You did a great job on nailing not only this song's execution - but it's sound !! Even tho it was a popular hit - that was NO EASY task - and thanks for sharing !!

This solo shows that Eddie Van Halen was truly a musical genius!! Steve Lukather wrote the backing tracks but no one alive at that time could play this solo other than Eddie himself. Sadly so many have dissected this solo and play it note for note. It's just great to hear someone who can actually play and not butcher it. Thank you for sharing this with the rest of us!

This psalms is from the Old Testament. I'm not sure, but I think even Muslims believe in the Old Testament. Either way this is good for the soul. God bless you sister. Eddie walked into the studio...listened to the track once and said..."ok I'm ready"...created that solo on the fly...did two takes and they took the first one. In and out in 30 mins...never got paid for the session. Legendary R.I.P EVH
