The CAGED SYSTEM and its chord shapes:
Most bar chords / barre chords are derived from the open chord shapes of the C, A, G, E and D chords. That`s why it`s called the CAGED system.
They are moveable chord shapes.
I explain how to move them across the fretboard and make them barre chords. Since some of those chord shapes are pretty hard to play I show you a way around and make them easier for you to play.
Major barre chords / major bar chords and minor barre chords / minor bar chords:
In this video I cover the chord shapes of the major AND minor bar chords. Most other vidos just show you the major barre chord shapes. But hey, minor guitar chords are used a lot! The minor chord shapes on guitar are usually a little harder to play. But I make them easier for you. We learn the full chord shape first and then I show you a trick to make them playable. There`s always a way around it;-)
The CAGED System is a great way to structure the different barre chord shapes and give you a perfect overview.
I have another video out for the CAGED system for 7th chords.
If you have any questions or sugggestions, please don`t hesitate to post them in the comment section bellow.
Enjoy your ride into the CAGED sytem and barre chords!

Hi Sandra. I once I played guitar in a Big Band. First step was to know what they expected from me and what not. This made things easy. They wanted to hear me. So I took a loud guitar, a 12 string. As a pick I had a chip of ebony. I used only barre chords, I always played all the strings. So they could hear me and I din't use amplification. Brass is loud but it worked. The chords I needed was only E and A, major and minor, and always with a 7 in it. I played all the chords with 2 or 3 fingers and did't use my pinky. Quite often I had to do some shifts. This is not difficult but for a moment there is a hole in the sound. Just hear such a band and you will see, there will be no hole for the audience. There is always sound. I did not think about the root of a chord. There was a bassman and this was his job. Once I was asked to play a solo. Well, you should not play single notes on a 12 string. So I played chords. I had free fingers enough to alternate a bit and made a bit more with my right hand. This was enough for them. In a Big Band there is never a lack of soloists. Someone mentioned, I did the job without amplification. This was looked upon as a small sensation, but only for insiders. It is easy and it works. Cold you make a video about this?

Thanks for coherently explaining the caged system. Most guitar teachers on KZbin or in person can't actually explain it well. After watching this video, i realize that it is a great way of understanding chord inversions. Also, totally awesome that your strat matches your shirt. ☺

Remley Yep, i bought the guitar after the t-shirt. Ya know the ladies, we want everything matched together perfectly, lol. Just kidding, it's pure coincidence.

Before I watch this I want to say that I really hope you make this concept understandable. I’ve been watching videos for CAGED for a while and it’s not made sense yet. I wish you luck. :)

Hi Sandra. Thanks for your great lesson. For the C - Chord as the D - Shape I like the voicing: ( 12 X 10 12 13 X ). Actually what you are playing here is C/E ... the first inversion, but it has a very cool sound.Take care. Stephan

Sie you can do that. It's an inversion then. I have a video on 7th Chords inversion. Check it out! Stay safe! ❤️

so i have a ? i get how moving each shape up the neck works now and what the shapes are but i dont get how or when to use different shapes for a chord progression rather then using the same shape like you see sublime will go between a bar chord shapes and e bar chord shapes is it just a matter of trying different bar chord shape voiceings and seeing what works or is there a trick to it

A very good teacher you are ...! What neck is this that you use on your strats?
@GuitarversumSandraSherman

Thank you, Detlev! This is a custom built guitar from Warmoth. I ordered the parts to my customizations and assembled it myself. The neck is just a maple neck, nothing fancy, but with a short scale length and a Wizzard shaped slim neck, bc I have really tiny fingers.
