I’ve always liked George Harrison’s slide playing. Apparently, he also used standard tuning. Thank you, Andy! An excellent intro lesson.⭐️

@ Cary Heuchert. George, much like Jeff Beck, flies way under the radar as a slide player. Very clean, well intonated notes, with wonderful melody. If you don’t know the song, check out Alvin Lee’s “The Bluest Blue,” from the ‘90s. George is featured on slide and it’s perfect for the song. His whole thing was to serve the song. RIP, George; RIP Alvin.

Yes, me too lol. I'm also trying to find more complete and advanced slide guitar in standard tuning lessons. I still cannot decide whether I want to stay in open E or just get really good in standard. Every time I try to do research I confuse myself even more because you got players that say you can do the same thing in standard tuning as you can in open. Obviously I wouldn't know because I can't play slide that great in standard. The problem that I'm having is that I just don't know how to navigate up-and-down the neck with the slide. I know my scales but for some reason it's not sounding right lol. Hopefully I can find something soon.

I've dabbled with slide for a few years and have finally been learning about it more from the pros- I wasn't muting the dead strings, I was playing with a pick even though I prefer fingerstyle in general and I still have troubles with note selection and getting a fluid run going... lots of work to do

I learned Statesboro Blues many years ago. I did not know that Duane was playing in open tuning. There were a couple of things you could not do, but it is all an advantage now in my humble playing. Andy killing it as usual.

Mr Andy, thank you for sharing your exceptional skills - you are a very comprehensive teacher - you have helped me with the slide tremendously - You make the complicated look manageable - Thanks to you I'm learning to play slide in standard - little bit harder but that's ok You stressed the importance of picking up the guitar everyday and practice even for just a few minutes - in time you will notice it gets easier as you go !!!

Great lesson man as i noticed that on the backing track you played the notes on mostly the 12 th and 9th and 7th fret. Thanks a lot.
@migueldemaria3830 Жыл бұрын
12th has B and E, which are in the E chord, 7th has F# and B, which are notes in the B chord, and 9th has C# which is in A. I guess areas where two chord notes on strings right next to each other are going to help get a similar sound as an open tuning.

Here is my take: I never play in standard tuning, but... I can see how good it is as a practice. In open tuning, you can be sloppy, you always fall back on your feet because of the open chord. In standard you have to be precise and you can't let a string ring that is not intended.

How high is the action on your instrument? I keep 'fretting' when I slide unless I'm way up the neck. Also, a little more technique on the right hand muting would be appreciated. Great lesson and sound
@AndyAledort7773 жыл бұрын
Much thx & glad you dig the lesson. Over time, you will learn to be able to play on very low action (as Derek Trucks does) tho it’s a good idea to raise it a little when you are first getting yr slide technique together. Warren Haynes keeps his action at a mid-point between high & low so he can pick up a slide & play comfortably on all of his guitars...
