John vincent I don't mean to say in the sense of technical ability but in the sense of their actual way and voice of speaking... They are so relaxed and calm when they explain things. I just like the sound of his voice. Of course Guthrie is a god. (Well a god amongst gods). Heck, I wouldn't place plini anywhere near joe sattriani or Steve vai even, Guthrie is another dimension! Plini is really great. But Guthrie is the supreme

a wannabe ?? you cant be serious. also, how many guitar players do you know that compare their ability's like a sporting event ? really, different styles and different inspirations, one does not have to be "better" than another. plini is awesome, Ive seen him play and hes very chill, he even let his backup guitar player lead some of the solos he usually does and communicates a lot with his bandmates when he plays. When they play a show it doesnt look like work at all, it look s like a guy hanging out with his friends having a great time and making great music.

I really liked this lesson, thanks for the mag column and video! One question: why are all references to regular notes when he's really flatted?
@MoonWalkerTexsRanger3 жыл бұрын
I strongly suggest you to think intervals instead of notes!
@AchingGibbon4503 жыл бұрын
Tldr: it’s easier to conceptualise when you’re playing when you’re used to e standard tuning if you don’t think about everything being flatted It’s just one of those things a lot of guitarists do, I do it as well if I’m playing in lowered tunings. I can’t speak for everyone but I myself find it easier to conceptualise everything in e standard even if the strings are tuned lower because I did the bulk of my learning in e standard and the relative intervals between the strings are all the same, I always end up tripping over myself mentally if I think about every note being flatted. If I just think about everything in e standard then I still think about and play everything as I normally would, it just comes out of the guitar sounding lower but I don’t have to think about it any differently. This kind of thinking doesn’t apply to alternate tunings like drop d where the intervals between the strings are different but it helps for standard tunings other than e
@eigenbroetler3213 жыл бұрын
@@AchingGibbon450 Thanks for the explanation, that makes sense. I guess I would have assumed those schooled in music theory would refer to the proper key, but I almost always see it in the key of E (including Guitar Word tabs). I am not far schooled in music theory but I do tend to reference the actual note/root/chord when I do discuss with other people.
@entropyembrace38446 жыл бұрын
sorry this might sound really daft, but how is he playing the F major chord on the third fret? if the root is on the E or the A string then doesnt he have to play it from the 1st of the 9th fret respectively? maybe this would be easier if i wasnt high right now
@ethanprescott46836 жыл бұрын
Drop d tuning boi
@ethanprescott46836 жыл бұрын
David Sim I'm answering the original question which was how he was playing an f chord on the third fret. The questioner assumed it was standard tuning thus "if the root is on the E or the A string then doesn't he have to play it from the 1st or the 9th fret respectively?" You are correct in the notes that make up an fmaj7 chord, but that however doesn't inform the original question how he is able to for a few shape on the third fret. :)

@MrDmadness6 жыл бұрын
in this video, yes... he is droning the d ( usually in standard an E ) and playing the pentatonic below it using standard tuning. You see this when he talks about " D " and then drones the low string as im sure you are referencing. I will note that i only watched it once so my observation assumes some things ( did not look at the fret notes below the dropped E string ) your observation that the lowest string is tuned to open D is correct. :)
