I am glad you reviewed these ladies. They are incredible and very very professional. They are blowing away any rubbish that is made today . They are great friends, respect each other and the audience. Everything about them is natural. There are plenty of you tube videos of them goofing about . Most importantly is that there is nothing on them. No drugs, no drunken escapades, although Misa drinks a bit on stage . There is no bad press or controversy, nothing bad like the crap that sticks to other bands. Band Maid are purely about music, friendships and fun. For them to exist in this time is nothing short of a miracle. I love this band and hope I get to see them live to appreciate them. Just a note here. Jimmy Page from LED Zeppelin sort out Arkane, the drummer , so her could meet her and express his appreciation. It does not get better than that. God bless these girls 🙏

From Japan. Thank you for introducing Band-Maid. They are hard rock and are now considered by fans to be one of the best hard rock bands in the world. They usually perform 23 songs and 2 hours live. They were formed in Japan in 2013 by side guitarist Miku Kobato. Miku Kobato had experience working at a maid cafe in Akihabara and had the idea of playing hard rock in a maid costume. That's why the band was named Band-Maid. "Thrill" was their first music video in 2014, played 2 million times in two weeks and saved them from breaking up. At that time they were just around 20-23 years old. Now they are writing, composing and arranging all the songs. 30 songs have been released on their official KZbin, all of which are killer songs. They will release a new song "Different" on December 2nd and a full album "Unseen World" in January 20 next year. It was announced that the new song "Different" will be the theme song for the animation "Log Horizon Round Table Collapse" that start in January 13 next year on NHK's E-TV (educational broadcast) Japan. Official KZbin kzbin.infovideos?view=0&sort=dd&shelf_id=2126 For hard rock, "Thrill," "Secret my lips," "Rinne," "Play," and "DICE." For ballads, "Wonderland," "Endless story ,"and "Daydreaming" For a fun live, "DOMINATION (Live) ," "CROSS", and "Choose me" Japanese style "Secret maiko lips" and "GION-CHO" My most favorite songs right now are the "Puzzle" band version and the acoustic version. Next, their latest Live work "Domination(Live)" would be good.(^^♪

They should released all their live music in 2017 and 2018 In their official you tube if they wanted to world domination, so people can see how their live music so good to be true , or all effort will be nothing.

I agree I am in the U.K.. band Maid are incredible. Just pure talent friendship and fun. I see constantly the following and appreciation growing on you tube. World domination is surely coming to them. I hope they get asked to play at the Tokyo Olympics. I just hope that they stay in the Japanese mind set, keep a good Japanese management team, and do not get sucked into the nasty , trashy press that is found in the west. One of Band Maids best qualities is they are good kind people with good human values that really can only be found in Japan. God bless these girls 🙏

Welcome aboard, Chris. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 90 million YT views!) an awesome hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Consistency (nearly 100 songs with their latest album, “Conqueror”, and a new drop coming Jan. ‘21), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destine for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off the rails spectacular. Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 50 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5XWaJppgpJnorM Their later songs drive even more - Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE and Smile... or more punky like Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts! And many are represented with over 30 well produced music videos. kzbin.info Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE concerts such as Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th (“Domination” kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5PcgnaAo5ulj8k), ZEPP 2018, Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and some of the better 2019 tour Fan vids. Here’s three of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues. The first taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZCUpZttmNmag9E, the second taken by JT Dayo in LA: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqasinWhdt6Veas, and third, JOSER8845 in LA: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6S6i6mifKx3idU. If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009 Band-Maid members are: (Ages are best est.). Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements, melodies and High Priestess mediator between the Gods (Band Members) and the masters and princesses (Fans). At 26 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Leader) as Miku calls her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away the persona. Her charisma, performance and voice focus the experience. Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 29 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kurrupo! No, no, no… KURRUPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Naw-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 29 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 29 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumRilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Assassin" - Bass, 28 years old. A sullen, barefoot, dark spirit driving her 5-string bottom-end to hell and back, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. The Mysterious One literally kills it… every note.. uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!

Great job sir! I play this song at least once a month just for the drum solo! Akane (drummer) always kills it! The whole song is awesome and BandMaid is crazy talented! One of the best bands in the world! Another rabbit hole you need to go down is 12 y.o. YOYOKA. Japanese drummer girl, youngest ever to be added to the DRUMMER WORLD Top 500 Drummers OF ALL TIME at age 11! She has already had more accomplishments than most drummers have had in their whole life. A true professional! For a small taste, check out her recent Progressive Rock release of "Sparkling" that she co-wrote. It is very different, and very inspirational. This song highlights a wide of array of her diverse talents. It is an official music video, and although they don't appear on screen, Rhonda Smith (toured with Prince for 10 years) is on bass, and Derek Sherinan (Formerly of Dream Theater and very famous worldwide) is on keys. "YOYOKA - Sparkling (Official Video)" kzbin.info/www/bejne/op2laYmweMl6r7s. If you want to know her accomplishments, they are summed up in this documentary that I commissioned (as a fan) with "Wave Potter". He did an awesome job! They are an absolute hit writing machine! I can listen to whole albums straight through. And that's exactly how I listen to them. As a drummer I have to comment on Akane. 2 years ago when I first ran across this band it blew me away. Her Drumming is not necessarily difficult (other than playing WAY faster than I normally do), but she is clearly a well rounded musician. Every section she plays multiple patterns/grooves, and makes it work perfectly with the rest of the band. It's like if Keith Moon could keep time, be precise, thought ahead and worked with Pete Townsend on what to play where to make sure the drumming complimented everything the rest of the band did. While still going absolutely NUTs on the drums. THAT is Akane Hirose!

Haha Great description here. To me (someone who can only keep a very very simple beat on the drums) everything sounds so clean/technical. Check out my "aiar drums" again. Did I do alright in the solo? haha

I was lucky enough to catch Band Maid in concert in NYC last year. They are a fantastic live band, I think that's where they really shine. A bit of background on them if you haven't already got some. Miku (rhythm guitar/backing vocals) founded the band and was supposed to be lead singer but didn't think her voice was strong enough to sing the types of songs she wanted band to play, so they recruited Saiki. Miku found Kanami (lead guitar) on KZbin. Kanami is so good that she is Miku's guitar teacher. Miku never played guitar before starting band and has improved wonderfully. Kanami knew Akane (drums) from being on different backing bands together. Akane knew MISA (bass) from attending the same music school. Miku used to work in maid cafe's in Japan and thought it would be cool to dress as maids and play music you wouldn't expect them to play. They call that "The gap"

Great that you’ve discovered The Maids. They’re unbelievably talented. Kanami on lead guitar composes and Miku on rhythm writes the lyrics. With Akane on drums and Misa on bass they’re supremely gifted. ONSET in 2018 is one of fans favs with the combination of light and sound creating an amazing piece. Plenty.more as per previous comments. Misa’s bass and Kanami’s solos are something else. Watch a few of these and you’ll realise you’ve been captured under the spell of the small pigeon in Miku. It was her creation in bringing in the maid concept and finding Kanami and Saiki online was pivotal. Kanami knew Akane who was studying with Misa at a musical academy. What a band they’ve brought to the world. A pity more don’t know about them. Spread the word.

Band Maid has three of the finest musicians in the world in Kanami Tono on lead guitar, Akane Hirose on drums and Misa on bass. Miku, the founder of the band and other guitarist is no slouch but not in their class. And Saiki is a revelation. If you like them you have to listen to Wagakki Band, with the incomparable Yuko Suzahuna singing lead, as well as their fantastic group of musicians also. Give them a shot. Also you have to do some BabyMetal, with another amazing vocalist in Suzuka Nakamoto. Three really class acts.

You are right about the drummer. This is the best song to showcase the drummer akane's skill but as you start listening to more band-maid songs you notice how big the part akane's drum has in creating the distinctive groove that band-maid has. Many praise misa's bass. And kanami's guitar solos, which is also creative and crazy and ever evolving miku's guitar ability... but, akane is the driver of the band-maid.

Plus, they aren't just musicians, they are entertainers...and they are just the very musical definition of fun! BTW, Kanami is normally mild-mannered and even nerdy when not holding her PRS, which is what you would expect from someone with a degree in economics, right? :-)

Oh Richard, it's been so long since I've listened to Nightwish! I haven't listened to a lot of their music, but I definitely remember Nemo, they're take on Phantom of the Opera, and a couple others.

3 years ago after checking out some K-pop, a thumbnail for Band Maid appeared. I saw pretty girls in maid outfits and figured, why not. The video was for the song, “Thrill”, and after being blown away, I’ve been hopelessly addicted to Band Maid ever since. They are the best Rock Band going. “Freedom” is one of their earlier songs. Their newer material is harder edged . Their live performances are often better than the studio originals. They have about 5 albums of material and countless songs would be great for you to review. “Thrill” is their 1st video and a good starting point. “Moratorium’, “Puzzle” and “Play” are good live songs to review, but you can’t go wrong listening/reviewing any Band Maid songs.

Yup Band-Maid is basically a LIVE band that records studio tracks because they need income? Haha. To begin with, Freedom in the studio version does not have the drum solo or the guitar-guitar solo transition. That was for this live show.
@stevehall51284 жыл бұрын
My impression is that they're so busy that they just have time to get the songs to "acceptable" (for Band-Maid - which is what most musicians dream of accomplishing) before they record them. Then they A) improve them, and B) add stuff for the fans, because they are sooooo fan-oriented it's humbling as a fan. It seems only fair to pay $20 shipping for an $11 CD single to support them.

@@paul_laws Hopefully new label Pony Canyon will be more international-fan-friendly to match the 'Maids themselves. Turns out they have a US website/online store with much more reasonable shipping (yay!)... _but_ it only shows anime DVDs and the "News" page hasn't been updated since 2018 (boo). On the other hand, the store is run by anime distributor RightStuf, which _does_ offer music, so there's still hope.

@@stevehall5128 When you say they're so busy, do you mean from touring/fan events, media, etc. or do they also have other jobs? Just curious as I don't know much about them.
@stevehall51284 жыл бұрын
@@Guitarz4Lyf The former. Recently they answered some questions from the official fan club and someone asked Akane if she was in love with anyone. She seemed to think it was a crazy question because she was way too busy even to meet anybody, let alone date. Now, their Instagrams show this isn't entirely true: they all like to go out to eat, drink, and shop - usually with each other. But they also practice 4-8 hours a day together or by themselves, do lots of promotional appearances and interviews (especially Miku & Saiki), and cram songwriting and recording in around that to put out a record pretty much every year since they started.

I was blow away the first time I heard them as well. I enjoyed your reaction and would suggest the following: Domination (live), Play (live), Onset (live) and Wonderland (live). Band Maid is jsut better live. The only songs I would suggest the official MV's for would be Rinne and Dice. Have a good one.

This is their "most fun" song I'd say, but to see their real abilities, you need to dig further. Go to their YT page and check out Domination Live 2020 from this same show, Onset Live 2018, Real Existence 2018, Rinne MV, Blooming MV, and maybe, just maybe you start to see how incredibly awesome they are! Japan’s rock, hard rock and metal scene has been on fire, especially the women the past decade. Try Lovebites-Thunder Vengeance live kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4ioaIOneNV6n5Y And try LisaX Band. Only two official videos (prior she did solo instrumental stuff), but this third release on Sony, she really has matured, you can tell she’s 14 on these, not 12 like when she had Polyphia and Paul Gilbert guest... seriously. “One More Chance is Enough” has guest bass by Billy Sheehan kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqvWoqCkesZrb8U (Lovebites always English, LisaX Band English except for one bridge section, BandMaid English varies from 5% to almost 40% with 2 songs all in English.)

@@Guitarz4Lyf The 'k' in kpop stands for Korea, there is also jpop from Japan, where band-maid is from. There can be crossover between the kpop/jpop groups and independent performers to some extent, for example some korean rappers were independent rappers before joining a group. They sometimes also write/compose some or all of their songs.

Do not ever compare Japanese accomplished singers and musicians to KPop - that is blasphemy!! Japan and Korea are no where the same when it comes to polished, skilled musicians! If you listen to KPop, you really can’t speak on JRock. BlackPink compared to Band Maid? No contest!!!
