In my 38 years of playing, you have taught me more than any other teacher. Love your style, enthusiasm, and attitude. Thanks Steve.

Good stuff Steve...after picking up the guitar again after 5 years, I can't help to think how good I should be by now after playing on and off since I was 19...Important to stay positive, have fun, and know that I can still be as good as I want to be even though it is 20 years since I first picked it up...After practicing several hours each week since new years day, I already have recovered much of what I had before and I think I have even become faster on lead than I ever was. Just goes to show you are never too old, but you may have to work a little harder than a 11 year old prodigy..

So true dude. I started playing acoustic guitar about 2-3 years ago as rehab for a badly broken wrist (to get fine motor skills back a bit more). I play in a very unorthodox way....just self taught, so have made up how I get sounds that I'm trying to achieve. I have started solo gigging a bit now which is exciting, but have really struggled with playing and singing at the same time, and playing without using the same strum pattern for every song with the same timing! (Soooo annoying!). I looked back on some footage from some gigs a year ago (when i started), and the contrast to how i play and sing now was a bit shocking for me to see....in an exciting way. Whilst I'm still pretty crap, I'm way less crap, have seen a lot of growth, have embraced the fact that i do things a bit different....and am developing my own style! It is frustrating at times, and growth feels annoyingly slow at times....but Steve is spot on!!! I will stay positive, focus on the small steps of development as i go, keep building on what I (not anyone else) can do, and have fun as I grow!! Cheers heaps Steve.....inspiring and important stuff to keep in mind everyday dude!

I started playing guitar about 3 years ago, than after a month or so i stoped bcuz my guitar wasn't good (it was like classic guitar).Than last year i got an acoustic guitar and i've been playing it since but i couldn't lear scales and all that on acoustic.I'm getting an electric soon and my question is what should i start to learn on an electric first? (i like bands like green day, nirvana, foo fighters, red hot chilli peppers) Thanks..

This is the best advice any budding guitarist could here! How do you eat an elephant? In very small chunks!
