Because of Prag vs Magnus match last year, Pragg got very popular and other Indian players got sidelined. Pragg became a sensation overnight with making headlines on the front page of all Indian newspapers. So many general Indian public didn't even know about Gukesh(even tho he still was the India #1 at that time also) and they didn't care at all. Gukesh has finally proved to everyone that he too is a deserving candidate and is #1 in the country for a reason. ❤🔥 🔥

The tier was poorly named. If they showed the entire quote from Magnus, you'll see he was complimentary and said he was between tiers. He was simply ranking the candidates based on experience in the candidates tournament. Don't read too much into that. ANd if you look at the end result, Prag, Vidit and Abasov were in the bottom half.

The kid is unreal. He is looking as mature as a battle hardened 40 year old champion which is crazy. He talks in a honest manner, doesn't sugarcoat anything and acknowledges his mistakes. Personality wise he is my favourite chess player already. Against Ding it will be a tough challenge but best of luck to him.

I want to tell sidddharth i was totally disappointed when I saw the bar showing that caruana enjoys a huge advantage over nepo. I was frustrated and slept. When I got up in the morning I saw the good news. I cannot describe how happy I was. Caruana is a dangerous player when it comes to shorter format of chess. We can understand that luck favours people who are sincere and hardworking.

Gukesh really came through in this tournament. He was never "forgotten". During the Olympiad, he was on such a good run that most people didn't even know the name of any player besides him. Pragg, Erigasi, nobody even knew who they were. This notion that nobody knew him was false. Pragg became popular eventually because his style was impressive. He had the ability to play dynamic like Anand and wasn't afraid to drop preparation on people. (That Schliemann against Vidit was unreal). Gukesh has started to show more of his analytical skills and is standing out again. He clearly played the best chess in the candidates and earned his shot.

I have just re-read Magnus Carlson's predictions made 3 weeks ago. He predicted that Gukesh would " do poorly". I am happy that the invincible Magnus was proved wrong. His prediction about Vidit also went wrong. The Nashik based GM defeated the fancied Nakamura twice. HIs other predictions are proved to be correct. Congrats Gukesh!

Magnus needs to take a long look at himself - he is not bigger than the game, he only damages his legacy by not taking part, he can't have his cake and eat it - he is only an ex-world champion. He will be forgotten faster than he thinks with Gukesh and Ding playing exciting matches that people want to see

Gukesh won because of Nepo not winning Abosov 2 times otherwise Gukesh is like an idiot Vishy Anand helped Gukesh just ordered Pragg to lose against Gukesh so Pragg lost against Hikaru and Fabiano also not to be blaming about Pragg Genious. Bro looks like you are not a chess lover, people like you just start following a sport temporarily whenever an Indian achieves something then leave again. Magnus gave his honest opinion and no matter how much I wanted an Indian to win Candidates, the tier list was accurate that time based on everyone’s performance that time and Guki/Pragg being so young and inexperienced. You should celebrate an Indian overcoming all odds and making us proud, instead of just always try to put down others.

@@aksharshah9380I disagree slightly, I understand Magnus’s opinion and of course I am not 1% of the player he is, but considering Gukesh’s performance of almost winning Tata steel wijk an zee (losing only in tie breaks) and winning Chennai masters and also reaching in the quarter finals of chess World Cup. I think Magnus underestimated him quite a bit, should have been placed at least in the same tier as Alireza and Pragg based on tournament performance imo
