Additional "rap" and lyrics were added here but, this song was originally written and recorded by New Orleans master music arranger Wardell "Joseph" Quezergue and long time Fats Dominoe drummer Joseph "Smokey" Johnson.

It Ain't My Fault was written by Smokey Johnson and Wardell Quezergue in 1964. Introduced by Harold Dejan's Olympia Brass Band into the contemporary New Orleans brass band repertory, it has become a standard, recorded by the Treme Brass Band, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and many others. The chorus was re-interpreted in a charity song with the same name by Mos Def, Lenny Kravitz, Trombone Shorty, Tim Robbins, and the Preservation Hall Band (+ Allen Toussaint ?) to benefit Gulf Aid, a nonprofit created in response to the BP oil spill off the Louisiana Coast. Already hampered by Hurricane Katrina in 2007, the BP Deepwater Horizon spill in 2010 further strained Louisiana communities.

An absolutely brilliant performance. Based on entirely on Joseph Smokey Johnson's It Ain't My Fault and Dorothy Love Coates Ain't No Hiding Place. I love it. But don't say it's an original composition. Cause it most certainly ain't!

Kravitz really hates Mos defs guts... you can tell all the track trough... giving him the cold shoulder + rolling eyes! Kind of sad... the song would have deserved a bit more harmony bandwise
