Even my children knew all the words to her songs as we drove everywhere listening to them on cassette tape with them singing all the words from their booster seats. She's been a part of my life since the late 80's; her music bringing me so much enjoyment and comfort. This is the first time I've ever cried with the loss of a celebrity. Catch a blackbird's wing...

I've been privileged to hear Portland, Oregon bassist/vocalist Denny Bixby (0:54) tell wonderful stories of working with Nanci Griffith, Gail Davies, Rodney Crowell and many more artists during his time in Nashville. Here he's singing the part performed by Mac McAnally on Nanci's 1988 album, "Little Love Affairs." Denny was the bassist on her next album, "One Fair Summer Evening," recorded live at the Anderson Fair venue in Houston, Texas.
@grassflats211 ай бұрын
Yes, most people don't know much about Denny, or Mac for that matter. Now he may be taking the Coral Reefers and going forth with them. When I lived in Nashville he was a regular fixture at venues like the Exit/In, at the same time Buffet was there.

Such a talented artist, such a pretty lady. Your passing has really effected me so much. I felt sadness when other artists that I was big fans of like John Prine, both Everly Brothers now passed, but your passing has had such an immense effect that I cannot even describe. Somehow it just doesn't even seem real that you have left this earth. I saw you only once in concert at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles in 1993 and feel lucky to have been there although I wish I had had the opportunity to see more concerts. I have been such a big fan of your music since the mid 1980's. RIP Nanci Griffith.

I'm not sure of the date, but I'm pretty sure that's the David Letterman set. While my mind has gone blank on the bassist's name, I recognize him as Paul Schafer's regular bassist.

It appears that I was in error on the bassist, but I still believe that this could be the Letterman set.
