Remember the most numerous tank in the NATO was the Patton with plain old steel armor and with a 105 mm cannon, it was obsolete in front of the Soviet Armor with 125 cannons and composite armor. Remember that the 120 mm of the Leopard II was unable to penetrate the frontal armor of the T-72M of East Germany in the 90s, and the M was an export downgraded versions with less armor than the T-72A of the Warsaw Pact. In the Iraq-Iran war the T-72M of Iraq (which were further downgraded versions) using obsolete ammunition owned the Pattons and Chieftains of Iran without a single loss from enemy tank fire.

@@r.p5380 Sorry but the iran iraq war one is a complete lie. There are several examples of Iraqi tanks being destroyed by iranian tanks. Take the battle of nasr. The iraqis won the battle but they did take losses of tanks. 45 tanks were destroyed to be exact. And unless you can give me sources about the leopard unable to pen a T-72 I can’t be sure if its true or not. There have been instances of leopards penetrating T-72s. Leopard had an overall better gun slightly better armor almost on par with the T-72s and better turret armor which unlike the T-72 didn’t go up in flames with a single spark. There are photos of T-72 tanks being penetrated by german leopards even through the glacius. In syria the Turkish leopard 2A4T tank showed higher survivability than the syrian T-72M1. However the upgraded versions such as the T-90AM and such has an upper hand compared to the turkish leopard tanks due longer firing range, reactive armor, and an automated loader

@@sasquatch7234 The problem is that we were trying to do things "right" in the first gulf war. Secretary of State Jim Baker went around the world rallying support to form a coalition, and it was a pretty big deal. Getting the Arab nations to join in was apparently quite tough. So tough in fact, that Saddam knew that attacking Israel with scuds and getting them to react and attack Iraq could've been enough to get the Arab nations to back out and break up the coalition. A significant amount of airpower was diverted for the purpose of scud hunting. Anyway, my point is that no one but us wanted to take it all the way, and it would've pissed our partners off big-time. Further, it was our first big conflict after Vietnam and it was essential that it was won as cleanly and quickly as possible. It just wasn't feasible at the time to go into Iraq and finish things up, though it probably would've been ideal in hindsight.

It was safer for US service personnel to be at war than back at base. That's how one sided this was. Iraq never had a chance, they were outclassed before the war ever took place. Operation Desert Shield, before the war, was an elaborate training exercise. Satellite reconnaissance had pinpointed Iraqi locations and where fortifications had been constructed. US infantry and armor had already fought the war before it began, so when it really did start, Iraqi forces were easily decimated.

@@youtubeuser_custom_1 Urban warfare is difficult, due to all of the places to hide and fire a weapon from. It's not in an open environment where the enemy can be spotted easily, and even with huge technological advancements, an urban conflict is difficult for the attacker due to not being able to easily find the enemy. While the structures make the job of the defender far easier, since they can maneuver and attack from within structures, making them harder to spot.

Awesome! My war! Or at least that’s what they said it would be. Task Force Grizzly with 2/7 1st MarDiv. Lol. They said we could expect 75% casualties assaulting the Saddam line. Not so much.
