How far are you casting for your rays I'm in ft myers area and I have a harder time catching rays than I do sharks they seem so rare down here
@watersedgefishing95024 жыл бұрын
Great video(s). I really enjoy them. Would you do a video were you use huge spinning reels and kayak them out and target fish you normally use 50w's-130's to catch. Like a big Tiger or Hammer or Bull. If you are close to getting spooled, you could get on the kayak.
@GulfCoastNation4 жыл бұрын
Glad you are enjoying the content! That is something we do not want to do and something we talk about alot on this channel is shark fishing undergunned. All fun in games until a hammer or tiger dies on you because you fought it for too long. Get them in fast with high drag and heavy gear. The sharks health is your responsibility don't take that lightly.

You are so right. I just started shark fishing, I don't usually get Hammers. I fish Long Island by the Hamptons. Mostly Sandbars and Sandtigers.

Hey Hey Hey Really looks like fun. Wish I was closer to fish with you. In the 30s here at night. Lite frost a coupe of times. Soon be deer season. Got the feeders out, and two stands up. Really dry. no rain for more than 20 days. We may get some this week. Bait is in close to shore. Don't remember it being that easy to get when we have fished. Was hope you would hook up with the 14 plus ft shark, and really see what the shark guy can do. Awesome Awesome Be right Do right Love People GPJ

Thanks! It was fun to get him out there and get him on one!! We normally use something like that when we start wearing boots that way we don't have to come back in and desand the feet. But if the waves are bad enough I will still get down to underwear to yak baits in 60° water

What do you do if you get a real big one? Say 10’+? I’ve handled a 8-9’ hammerhead by myself but I’m not sure I could work with much bigger than that with how hard they pull and how hard they are to move back out.
@GulfCoastNation4 жыл бұрын
Keep waders on and do the same exact thing! Have handled a few like that before we started filming! Bolt cutters, cut the hook and keep them in waist deep water!

What style boat anchor do you guys use? Would a kayak anchor work if it is buried in the sand? Or does it need to be more heavy duty. I just ordered some of your leaders from Terra Firma for my trip down in April. Cannot wait.
@GulfCoastNation3 жыл бұрын
Just a little boat anchor but I'm sure the kayak one buried would be fine! Thats awesome man, sounds like you're gearing up to have a great trip!🦈💪

what bait do you use to catch the rays on the surf rod?
@FearItselff4 жыл бұрын
I hook up on or lose a good amount of bait to smaller 3 foot sharks or so very frequently, any tips at all to help avoid this or not much you can do? Fishing west coast Florida around Indian Rocks area so could be location or should I try dropping bait out further? Running about 250-400 yards out at the moment. Thanks guys! Great content.
@GulfCoastNation4 жыл бұрын
Hey brotha!! That can be a tough situation when you are dealing with an influx of smaller guys! When we get that issue here we run bigger hardy baits like Southern or cownose ray! That way they can chew on it and take small bites but it will last longer and a big momma will eat down a 4 pound bait, so if you run a 20 pound chunk and they eat on it for 6 hours before the bait is no good you had good bait out for atleast 6 hours. Hope that helps
@FearItselff4 жыл бұрын
@@GulfCoastNation I appreciate the info! Thanks brother, now I have to go catch some stingrays.. haha.

Is a pro exw 50 wide too small for bigger sharks... i run 80 lb braid to a 35 foot tail leader. I also have a exw 30 wide
@GulfCoastNation4 жыл бұрын
Yes both the 50w and 30w are too small to target big sharks. 3 things that needs to increased. The size of the reel won't hold enough line if you hook a true giant. The line strength. 80 pound braid isn't enough to put high pressure on a 1000 pound fish like you need to! We use 200lb The exw series only puts out 57 pounds at full drag, we use 65 pounds at strike. Check into the TRX series avet has!
@whatupm88914 жыл бұрын
Awesome, how far out do you drop your baits?
@GulfCoastNation4 жыл бұрын
anywhere from 150- 1000 yards!
@MatthewSmith-tg4wk2 жыл бұрын
How do u set your reel up for kayaking solo? I’d come back to a mess or a huge bow in my line from the current
@GulfCoastNation2 жыл бұрын
Well first option is to not go solo when the current is really really bad. But in any case you have to kayak under some pretty heavy tension so that when you drop the bait it doesn't pull line off the reel. This particular night was very very flat
@MatthewSmith-tg4wk2 жыл бұрын
@@GulfCoastNation how much drag are u applying to not have line roll out of the reel but are still able to yak?

can i use something like a 50 or 80 wide to catch the same fish as you

The sharks we caught this evening a 50 would work! We run an 80 TRX narrow (Caught both sharks tonight) and an 80w trx! They have the drag to stop some big fish!
