Used to work in Savannah and watched one take off in about the same length... Pilot ran the engines to take off power while holding the brakes and then let it rip... looked like a top fuel dragster the way it hopped off the line...maybe 1500 feet and it was up and gone. The Gulfstream test pilots are always pushing the limits.

What you most likely saw was a landing with the autobrakes set to high, probably done due to some sort of company requirement for landing performance margins. On touchdown the system immediately applies 500 psi to the brakes in order to begin slowing and de rotating the nose. When the nose wheel is on the ground, the system then applies maximum braking up to the anti skid limit. If you don’t step on the brake pedals to disarm the system, it will bring you to a complete stop on the runway. It’s quite a fun experience in the airplane, and everything not secured will be in the cockpit.

I really enjoyed this clip. Did you do some clever editing to remove the parachute out behind it?! They must have really stood on the brakes, I could see it moving side to side noticeably. Every aircraft has its pros and cons, but I wonder how the other plane I'm very impressed with - the Pilatus PC-24 - compares with its extreme short landings. Certainly the PC-24 would be able to land on rougher strips than many / any other business jets, but would have reduced performance in other ways. Everything is usually a compromise in some way.
@matthiashaenni
@matthiashaenni 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Nope, there was no parachute :) But you are right. It was an extremely short landing for a Gulfstream. The G600 requires normally a runway length of around 950m / 3,100ft for the landing. But that landing used only half of this distance which is incredible! Yes, the Pilatus PC-24 is also one of my favourites. It has perfect "off-road" capabilities and outstanding short field performance. Landing distance is around 770 m / 2,525 ft with max load. The range is 3,334 km.

Yes, an excellent short/field landing......when overlooking limitations...like reverser operations slower than 60 kts....(that's for FOD prevention.) Touching down between the threshold marker and the first touchdown zone marker....which meant that the entire approach was probably flown low....But was a nice landing.

What airport is this? What was the runway length available? The remaining runway available after this landing appears to suggest that they didn’t need to do this harsh of a stop? Anyone know why they jammed her to a max perf stop? I’ve dropped my 550 into a few shorter runways in my day but never this hard with what looks like remaining runway to ease the deceleration to a more comfortable pace. Safety first obviously but this landing rollout seems like an unnecessarily harsh treatment of this plane. Those brakes were pretty damn hot I can tell u that!!!

Wow. 14 seconds from 1.2 or 1.3x Vs in a jet that didn't look to be at minimum weight. Gulfstreams have those big wings with no leading edge stuff but good flaps and spoilers.

FAA records indicate it is owned by UMB Bank of Salt Lake City, Utah. A bank doing "business" in Switzerland. No surprise there.

If this was my plane, I'd be furious at the pilot if there wasn't a very good reason for this. No need to trash the brakes. The aircraft looked quite unsettled. Beautiful aircraft though.

They got the buckets (Thrust reverses) out early on this landing and you can hear the brakes scream. They also had to kick in quite a bit of rudder to keep it on the centerline. (I bet there were no passengers on board) Great job but not something you would do everyday except for demonstration purposes.

Nice Matt. At first I thought "where are the mountains" until realized you at a different place on the field and a another direction. With a serial number registered staring in the letter "N" it is generally a U. S. registered airplane. Can you shed some light on its registry?

Thank you! It is a private Gufstream G600 based at Paris. But you are right, it is registered in the United States. I have no further information about the ownership except that UMB Financial is behind it. But it is quite common to find a bank or finance institutes behind an aircraft financing. The private operator must be quite wealthy.

I was expecting a much longer landing roll so I could take close-up pictures of this brand new G600. This was a type premiere for Bern, by the way. The first Gulfstream G600!

This was absolutely for some time of safety rating, or for a show. No other reason to do so, incredible that this aircraft can do that though... that was the fastest stop I think I have ever seen apart from an aircraft carrier... really something extraordinary. And common.. this has to be the best looking jet ever built, or close too it.. those wings...
