This Gulliver clearly sits at the vocal centre of a Venn diagram of Peck and Crosby.

Man I've never seen this adaptation. The rotoscope animation on Gulliver is really impressive for the time. Oh, but Craig, there IS a mini series adaptation of Gulliver's Travels that stars Ted Dansen that details the entire book and ALL the worlds.

My family checked this movie out of the library ALL THE TIME when I was a kid. It's pretty inoffensive entertainment. Also, fun fact, Pinto Colvig (the voice of Gabby) is not only known as the original voice of Disney's Goofy, but was also the first Bozo the Clown. P.S.: There was a miniseries version of Gulliver's Travels with Ted Danson as Gulliver where they include Brobdignag (the land of the giants), the Houyhnhnm (horse people) & Yahoos, and it's pretty much the most complete adaptation of the book to date.

This really isn't the Fleischers fault. When they finally received the go ahead to make a feature length animated film the studio gave them the caveat that it had to be as similar to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as possible which really stymied their creativity. I'm sure if they had been left to their own devices they could've made something great. If you're looking for some good shorts to watch at the yearend episode I highly recommend their Superman cartoons. Those cartoons well earn the Fleischers their spot in the animation hall of fame.

Well, no one seems to have mentioned it yet - so, seems it's up to me. Here goes: Ray Harryhausen, master of stop-motion animation and the guiding hand behind such fantasy classics as *The 7th Voyage of Sinbad* (1958), *The Golden Voyage of Sinbad* (1974) and *Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger* (1977), delved into the misadventures of that other literary seafarer in Jack Sher's *The Three Worlds of Gulliver* (1960), which sees him through his experiences as both moving mountain and living action-figure. If you can stomach early 60's family fare of the Disney-like stripe, it's a clever charmer. Star Kerwin Mathews doesn't act fit to make his way out of a paper bag, but he looks the part - and really, that's all that matters in this version. ☺️

Listening to the movie clips, is it just me, or do some of the sound effects sound ultra loud and clear in comparison to the rest of the movie? As if on this particular print/DVD, modern sound effects were added in later? (It just seems to me like some of the effects sound like they're in clear stereo, while other parts sound like the old-timey mono channel.)

I work at an English language cram school for young children in Taiwan, and part of their curriculum is based on well-known English stories, including Gulliver's time in Lilliput. After my students read it, I show them the civil engineering scene, and they love it to pieces--but I stopped showing any other part of the movie because they can't understand a word any of the characters say. Except Gulliver. Because he talks so slow even they make fun of him.
