At this rate we may reach a point where we account for every hour of every day of every year not shown on film for these Legacy characters. Looks like even the manatees stopped helping their creative process.

Vader revisiting Tatooine to kill Watto seems weak and petty to me. Vader doesn't even like the planet, and I dont think this would be a viable reson for him to return to Tatooine.

I figured maybe it should have been one of his first times using bounty hunters. Send one to nab Watto, and bring him to Vader.

Honestly, Watto's treatment of them didn't seem to be particularly bad - I'd wager Apple factory workers overseas have it worse. He even seemed to have some fondness for Anakin. Plus, when they met latter, Anakin didn't seem hostile to Watto just assertive. Of all the people Vader would go out of his way to kill, Watto seems very low on the list.
@Superjay472 күн бұрын
Im not defending watto as a slave master but, anakin and shmi had quite a bit of luxaries you don't really see other slaves have.
@delrunplays29032 күн бұрын
Yeah, he basically just owned their labor and liberty - which is bad, but Anakin was able to scrap together not just a droid but also a podracer in his spare time, so it's not like Watto worked him to the bone. And their home, while simple was furnished and supplied to a comfortable level.
@TaraCicora2 күн бұрын
Well skilled slaves get better accommodations. The same thing happens in our world.
@TaraCicora2 күн бұрын
@@delrunplays2903 I think you forgot their lives too, since he could kill them at any time. Their previous master would eat her slaves. Also, he was sending Anakin out into the desert to do business with the Jawas alone at like 8 or 9 years. It was situations like that, that afforded Anakin the chance to scrounge for stuff. Anakin and Schmi's home was owned by Watto and could be taken at any time. Anakin wasn't worked to the bone because he wasn't a labor slave, but a highly skilled technical one. Anakin even notes the difference when he was taken back into slavery for a short while as Padawan during a mission.
@delrunplays2903Күн бұрын
@@TaraCicora All that's true, but I don't think it invalidates the fact that of all the people Vader had reason to kill, Watto is very low on the list. Even if Vader simply happened across him, I can't really see him killing Watto unless he had reason to. There's just no indication to me that Anakin held any animosity towards Watto. His last interaction with Watto started with him fixing whatever Watto had, Watto having a positive reaction on realizing who Anakin was, and Watto cooperating with him to find his mother (even appearing to view Shmi's liberation from slavery to be a positive event despite clearly having no issues with the institution of slavery). All in all, the whole Vader killing Watto out of revenge for some reason. It just seems to ignore the actual characterization of their relationship up to that point. I mean, maybe I could see the whole revenge angle for Watto not freeing both Anakin and Shmi with Qui-Gon's deal? But even still, the Jedi Order and Tusken Raiders were far more responsible for Shmi's death than Watto making a decision that was essentially fully financial rather than apathetic like the Jedi or malicious like the Tuskens.
@TaraCicoraКүн бұрын
@@delrunplays2903 I wasn't really concerned with that point. Because you are right, Watto is low on the list if what we are seeing is even true and not a fantasy of Ben's. No disagreement from me on that. I was more calling attention to the fact that you and the other poster mentioned that Anakin and Shmi had nicer things than other slaves and seemed to minimize the institution of slavery. I'm sure that wasn't intentional, but I'm just clarifying that Watto didn't do things to be nice. But because high-value/skilled slaves have nicer things generally to keep them behaving. Though we aren't really shown anyone else's slave quarters to compare. Watto didn't care about Anakin and his mother, he didn't help Anakin because he was nice, it's because Anakin returned a Jedi, and Watto was intimidated. He was clearly nervous around Anakin when he returned. We need to be careful acting as if slavery is 'ok' simply because the slavemaster is 'nice', or because the slaves seem to have nice things, things that they don't even own. That's all.

Vader returns to Tatooine a few times in the comics after New Hope. Could've just been one of those times (he did go out of his way to murder Tuskens on occasion so it would track). Or it could just be a thought in Kylo's head and Vader didn't kill Watto.

Do the comics ever really help any of the series or explain anything meaningful to things that happen in the movies? Kylo's entire existence is not something anyone really wants to see. He was a pathetic, angry, messed up boy throughout the sequels who really didn't seem that menacing, even after killing Han Solo. He was more like a psycho teenager than Vader's grandson. Instead of doing comics dealing with established characters (or, creating new charcters who, after a few issues, suddenly get thrown into intersecting with major characters and events) why not create a story-line and characters that don't have to intersect with the movies? It seems like there could be some ideas out there that could be used. For example: The rise of a crime lord that started his own syndicate on the lower levels of Coruscant (and not Maul or a Sith). A group of slaves on one of the Hutt controlled worlds that rise up and do a sort-of Spartacus style rebellion against their slave masters. A police detective on Coruscant dealing with ritual murders of government officials with no seeming connection other than their public service -- and the killer is elusive. Yeah, they'd not be as thrilling as epic tales of every nanosecond of Darth Vader or Kylo Ren's lives, but if done right, they might be interesting enough to be made into an animated series (as long as Dave Filoni doesn't retcon the author's story).

To all the people wondering why Vader may want to kill Watto, he probably lays some blame on watto for the death of his mom. If Watto hadn’t sent Shmi to the Lars, she’d still have been alive. That motivation is pretty consistent with what we know about Vader. Especially since we know he came back to Tatooine to slay sand people.

What he came back too Tatooine too slay more Tusken Raiders? As Darth Vader - leave them alone; Palpatine should put a tighter leash on his destructive anger. Doesn't he have to rule the empire and enforce order on more important parts of the galaxy? Vader has a lot of spare time
