First Recovery Video: • SURGERY RECOVERY VLOG ...
Second Recovery Video: • SURGERY UPDATE | MY GU...
I had a gum graft which is considered a minor surgery. I have a receding gum on my bottom front tooth and if left would mean losing my tooth. A gum graft is where gum is cut out of the roof of your mouth and stitched over the exposed root. I did a lot of research online before and after the surgery, but one thing I struggled to find was a day by day list of what to expect after the surgery, what the pain would be like and what kinds of foods I would be able to eat as the days went by. So I have documented my own experiences in the hopes that someone in the future will be able to watch this to answer their questions when they have this procedure done.
This will be my final video on my surgery, so if you have any questions leave them in the comments.

I just had this surgery done two days ago and I’ve been in tears basically the entire time.. I’m so afraid of it failing and having to go through it again! I’m 16 and I had to get it done on 2 teeth in the front, they wouldn’t let me continue with braces unless I had the procedure done. For me they said it would only take 2 weeks- a month to heal.. so seeing you making updates a full year later is really scary ahah 😅

Please read my comment, which is posted above yours. It may be of help. "Pull" coconut oil with turmeric and clove powder mixed in it, through your teeth. This will naturally regenerate your gums some. Also take a cotton swab and dip it in a mixture of neem and tea tree oil and rub it into your gums, front and back, before your bush (once a day) to kill bacteria directly and without chemicals. Research how to regrow gum tissue naturally. The coconut oil is an ayurvedic treatment, used by Indians for centuries, as I understand it.

These videos are a blessing to society! First of all THANK YOU SO MUCH for these. But also, it looks to me that your healing process took way longer than normal. Maybe your case was super severe, but it could be that your clinic just wanted you to keep coming back and charge you over and over again.

I had a gum graft back in January and the procedure went well, but the recovery was basically annoying haha! I went in to have my stitches removed and a cleaning a little over a week ago. The didn’t charge me for the cleaning. I was so nervous for that but my mouth felt so much better once the stitches were out. Mine still looks quite low as well, it’s not even been a month since my surgery. I see my periodontist in a month and a half to see if I can start with straightening my teeth. For me they aren’t pushing all the stuff they are saying you need to do in order to have it succeed. She basically said in a week I can start using a toothbrush and just brush upward on the site. I also bought the Sonicare toothbrush a few months ago and love it. My orthodontist’s office recommended it, gave me a $15 off coupon and I also got lots of points when I purchased it, so I basically only spent about $125 on it. I can’t wait to be able to use it on the graft site once it’s fully healed.

I thought this was gonna be done in a week, they did not educate me on this very much at all. Now im worried and I hope I dont have to get this redone. This is day 8 after my surgery, the gums look the same level as all my other gums but idk if it is healing fully. The pain has gone down a lot. Your gums do look a lot better. Im going to force myself to spend so much more time cleaning my teeth because I don't want to go through this again, i'm also going to limit the amount of sugary foods I can eat.

Mistake number 1 is: letting your dentist use the turbine with their abrasives and ultra heat produced produced by the high spinning mini grinder to "clean" your teeth instead of hand scraping the tartar away. This dentist process should be stopped because it first cuts the connection or seal between the gum and the teeth, this is why the bleeding at the dentist "cleaning", second it polishes the microscopic surface of the teeth that allows the gum to attach to the teeth and last the heat burns it killing this important live line between gum and teeth and the gum can no longer grip or hold onto anything from each tooth because now it is polished smooth. If this cleaning was done onto the achilles tendon one would no longer be able to stand. The fast spinning and abrasive pastes and heat by your dentist is like having a regular tooth brush and dental paste going over the gum/tooth line millions of times in seconds and way more damaging than regular cold tooth brush cleaning. Such ignorance is that of dentist blaming bad cold brushing as the main reason. Next time you visit your dentist you might want to say what I say no turbine cleaning on my teeth.

What's a turbine?
@droojohnson
@droojohnson 9 ай бұрын
The polishing intends to remove tartar and smooth the surface so there are fewer crevices and rough surfaces for acid-producing bacteria to cling to. Doing this every day would absolutely be too much, but doing so once a year is barely more abrasive to your gums than eating dry crunchy cereal? Unless they’re intentionally applying the polish to your gums, but they intentionally avoid the gumline.

@droojohnson "Chronic healing" is the name of a condition that Michael Jackson suffered from .... Michael Jackson didn't have surgery on his nose on a yearly basis, and one day, he stopped healing ..... chrinic healing is when tissue stops rejuvenating and / or healing .... if it was an infection, then the dentist would prescribe meds to treat or stop the infection .... disturbing the gum line by the doctor, self disturbing it or as the result of germs and mouth chemicals is what I believe produces "gum Chronic healing" .... my gums mostly show damage and growing canals on the outside way more than on the inside. This is why I can only explain it as having been damaged by my dentist(s) ..... but there is not one person, including me, who can surely prove at this time that my opinion is correct.

Thank you for your video. I just had a gum graft done and the gum are more receded still than I had hoped. But it's only been two and a half weeks now. I have noticed gums growing back where the gum graft has yet to be done, by using coconut oil with turmeric and clove powder mixed into it. I pull it through my teeth and gums for fifteen minutes every day. I had my first check up a week after surgery, which was four days ago. They said it was healing very nicely. I go for a cleaning in two weeks. I am not happy with where the gums are right now, but your video does give me some hope that they will grow back more than they have. Thank you for that! I also use an electric toothbrush (before surgery and I will go back to that after the prescribed month using a manual brush). The Oral-B battery-operated toothbrush is not expensive. I got it on Amazon. Not sure who your commercial outlet is for such items, but here I can also find it at Walmart. Oh, and now I also use cotton swabs with tea tree oil and neem oil that I mix together in a small vial. I rub it into my gums, front and back, before brushing, which I do with baking soda and a fluoride free toothpaste. I use one that has turmeric in it and coconut oil. The other toothpaste I use is a "prebiotic" toothpaste. I get them at my local health food store. I also floss after I pull the coconut oil through my teeth, which I do after brushing. I think this is why they are healing faster, and I agree with you that you must make your own discernments concerning the dentist's advice, because their recommendations are based on their profit margins. Again, thank you. You have put my mind at some ease! :)

I watched your videos I totally understand you not wanting a second procedure. I have always had gum issues my father had the same problems so it's not entirely my fault but I also didn't floss all the time. Every time I got a cleaning they would warn me about gum recession. All I can say is if anyone has gum problems take care of it before you need a gum graft it's not fun it's a lot of pain. If you have gum problems have to get the teeth cleaned more frequently there is no way you can see your teeth like they can to properly clean it. I have had at a least 4 deep gum cleanings over the years and all of those were because my pockets were 6-7's. When that happened was because I didn't bother going back to the dentist to get the cleaning for a year or so. When your younger just don't think there every be a problem as you age past 40 that's when I started to have real problems. Flossing is a must because what your doing is leaving food between your teeth when you go to bed and great environment for bacteria to grow. They already told me I may need bone grafts if it recedes again which I'm told takes 3-4 months to heal.

I'm having this done in a little over a month. I'm so nervous. :-( They are taking from the roof of my mouth for my front 3 or 4 bottom teeth, and then putting cadaver tissue to thicken the gums on the left side (very thin gums here - my periodontist thinks it's from braces). This year has been full of health problems and I just want to be done with it all :-(

I had a tunneling graft done this week but still used connective tissue from the palate. I work at a dental practice with an implant and soft tissue aesthetics focus so I have friends in high places (yay) but I really did not find this procedure anywhere near as bad as others have said it would be. I am so paranoid that it will fail though. What if I was too rough with the site, too heavy with the ice pack, ate my soup too hot? My boss will KILL me if he has to re-do it omg 😂 Ps. Where I work (in Australia) we don’t charge our surgical patients for reviews and follow ups. Interesting.

You might have meant a Phillip's Sonicare toothbrush. Battery powered? They are the best! But $200 is way overpriced for one. Although I'm sure the site of your gum graph looks much better to you than it previously was, the gum still looks super low to me. I hope you go back to the periodontist at some point, just to get it checked, not necessarily to have it cleaned. You can get a regular cleaning with a regular dentist, no? But it really has only been one year. And...I can't imagine life without flossing. Lol. I have found your 3 videos quite helpful. Hopefully you will never have to go through any of that again!

You said they were on you about not flossing and claimed you were. Then you went and said you aren't flossing and lazy. I'm not perfect myself, I'm needing graphing due to Lupus, having had braces decades ago and rigorous, abrasive brushing and like you, I skip day time brushing and it catches up with us but I just wanted to point out that your statements to them and to us, are contradictory at times. So I'm not sure to follow you because you haven't been on the same page or maybe it's that you didn't want them knowing you were taking as good a care as you should. I think I seen one of your prior video's leading up to this one but I doubt those have before/after as this is the later video, so I would have liked to see a better result picture, now that you're healed or before/after. You're brave to do this and I hope they give a new lease on our teeth!!! Especially if we have beautiful teeth as I do, and strong. I thought it is Frankenstein stuff as I'd never heard of this before. So it's been a few years since you did this, I hope the graphing(s) you had done helped and worked out Beautifully and I invested in a Philips Sonicare as I've been struggling to relearn how to brush properly, and not take my stress out on my brushing. It's sad the things we can end up doing to ourselves without meaning to, or out of anxiety/mental health issues. Some people grind in their sleep, some neglect them in depression or getting caught up with stuff that is really not nearly as important as our oral hygiene. I also agree that it sounded like you were being taken advantage of. I will tell them I'm low income and will have my dental facility do my cleanings, unless they perform a cleaning in a way I would require, I'll go to the dentist where my health insurance covers it. I started saving for my dental needs probably close to 15 years ago, so I'll be needing graphs done, an implant and I feel like I have a bacterial infection overall. This kicked in when the pandemic started. I must be brave like you and not put it off anymore. I've been trying to learn how to brush correctly, so I don't destroy graphs I end up getting. I was trying to master the brushing but it's been only harder as the gum lines have drawn away further and I don't know to touch them as I'm afraid I'll brush them away as I had all those years, so I'm trying to softly going along the exposed part, it's truly confusing and sad. Thank You for sharing in this ordeal and being so open and I wish more people would!!! I'm shy but maybe for the importance of the matter, I will make some video's to try and demonstrate to others and help provide some insight or reassurance, but it depends on how things go. How did you choose who you would go to? Did you just go to who you were referred to? Well this video is a bit old and I imagine you've moved along in life, so take care and hope your mouth is healthy and happy 😁❤️🌹

This was so long ago now I almost can't remember haha but I was super good about flossing and doing everything perfectly initially because it was SO much money I didn't want to waste it. Then it was because they kept accusing me of not flossing that I figured if it wasn't making a difference why was I bothering. So I stopped after they said that a couple of times. Now (however many years down the track) my gums are fine, I haven't flossed in several years, haven't been back to them or a dentist at all since but I've had none of the pain or infection I used to get frequently, so I'd say it all worked great. I just went to one that was close to me as I didn't want to have to drive for an hour, but I wish I'd looked into more reviews and driven further, it's just that there aren't heaps of places around that do this sort of thing.
