No spoiler, but the guy at the end was in the crowd at Gold D. Roger's execution at the beginning of Episode 1.

What makes One Piece different from a lot of mainstream shows is Oda Sensei’s ability to portray emotion in his stories. Instead of a traditional fighting show, Oda doubles down on the emotion. He knows humans have a large palette of emotions, and he knows how to make us care about his characters through the emotions in his story. On top of that, One Piece has one of the biggest world building in all of anime. Previously I stated the Marines have a sense of Justice, and each marine interprets it in their own way. One thing I’d like to point out is the marine jacket. In the anime, the jackets of marine leadership has “Justice” embroidered on the back. Their uniform is the embodiment of what they stand for. Now that I have said that, I want you to compare how Captain Morgan removes his jacket. He throws it in the dirt when he gets ready to fight. Compare that to Garp, who tosses it to the marines to hold for him. It’s a small detail no one has seemed to catch on to yet. It gives us a look at how the two characters ideals are. They are both in leadership, but their ideals couldn’t be more different.

"It's gonna be a major pirate villain of some kind." ... Something like that lol. This story is WILD. I hope they make at least 4 more seasons of live action for ... reasons.

Before I saw this on Netflix, I hadn't even heard of One Piece. In the animé the townspeople did go but were stopped by two pirate hunters who had befriended the Straw Hats. Because of this I have started One Piece, only around 250 episodes do far. In the animé the whole town knew what Nami was doing. She told her sister and her sister told the town. The town, to protect her, pretended they didn't know, and did not let on to her that they knew.

Makino is just the owner/operator of Party's Bar, she's not related to Luffy. She does help look after him as he's basically on his own at that point. Other people in the town help look after Luffy as well, but they aren't featured in the live action. The other main one is the town's mayor. As Shanks is thanking the townspeople the mayor is there (old guy in a bucket hat), but the brief cameo is all we got in the live action.
