Johannes Anttila do you know any drills to help learn the gumbi? Every time I try it always turns like an opposite cartwheel. I can never get the bend.

I've never seen this question answered in depth before, wondering if you could help? When doing step in TD raiz does the direction your front foot faces change what you should be doing with the driving leg? With the push foot facing forward (like in your front swing TD raiz example) I've always been instructed to drive the back leg directly back like in a webster, however i've never been able to get my hips to turnover in that position due to lack of flexibility. So i then started trying to learn it with the front foot 90ish degrees to forward (like your step in example) thinking from there it would be a little easier to turn my hips over to give it that raiz shape. But this is where the issue is, from that position driving the leg directly backwards seems to throw off the whole movement. It seems to make more sense to turn the driving leg back around to face you but I don't understand how to generate power from that position. Essentially what I want to know is, when your doing step in TD raiz with the front foot turned 90 degrees what does it feel like your doing with that back leg? awesome series too btw, and tricks look tasty as always.

It's actually quite hard to say how it feels. Raiz line tricks feel quite different to anything else when doing them from cheat step. I really try to do the cheat setup and then keep my foot facing forward but it always fails from this setup 😛. I try to lift the leg up like a webster but it doesn't go up like that because of the cheat setup turns it slightly.

I love this such detail and explanation i can't do a td raiz but gumbis are really difficult even though i can gumbi I'm still trying to master it i jus need to figure out the head positioning if i get this part i would get the gumbi properly do you have any suggestions on this part? Plz give me some pointers anyways splended vid man

I'm not completely sure what you mean with the head positioning. The head just stays between the arms 🤔. Don't you see my technique from the video. Maybe compare that to yours?

The way i see it you just don't take off your first hand when doing a gumbi and it turns to a proper TDR.Its very different feel. but kinda similar.Don't you twist early more and hard to face the direction where you came from when doing TDR as opposed to a gumbi.I think the plant arm goes from way behind and more stretched like a backhandspring when doing TDR as opposed to a gumbi which it goes kinda from the forward and not much swing to that arm.am i right?

Does the one handed gumbi variation count as sailor moon or does sailor moon have to be a quick tap?

my tdr is weak but my gumbi is fantastic, does that normally happen, where people perfect the gumbi first?
@johzuke1
@johzuke1 5 жыл бұрын
I would say that's more rare at least in my experience. Do you do gumbi and round off from the same leg? Are you back and shulders flexible? Those help tons with gumbi! Td Raiz can be easily done badly taking off foot facing to wrong direction and going over the side but doing it properly is kinda hard. If you are quite flexible gumbi is easier since you can just modify your cartwheel little by little. Anyways my Td Raiz is a lot stronger than my Gumbi and it took way longer for me to get a decent Gumbi than to get a decent Td Raiz. And here is the last anecdotal example: Here in Finnish tricking community there are many strong Td raizers (Johan, Vellu, Aleksi Ranta, Aleksi Neuvonen, Santeri Salonen, Riku Rikkonen and Me) who can at least dub cork from it. But Vellu and me are pretty much the only ones who can do gumbi properly and my gumbi is definitely weaker than my Td Raiz.
