Gumby - Point Of Honor 1968

Gumby is angry. Prickle is trying to win Goo's favor at Gumby's expense, so Gumby has challenged Prickle to a duel. This turns out to be quite a duel and since all is fair in love and war, many tricks are used. Goo is the only one who wins this round.

Gotta love the continuity black holes! One minute Prickle's nearly out of breath, a few centimeters from squishy yellow death beneath the wheels of Gumby's locomotive, when he suddenly gets the idea to employ a magnet... and in the next shot, he's already managed to: 1. procure a magnet, some rope, and a grounded post 2. tie the magnet to the post, directly in the path of the train, then calmly step back and watch Where did Prickle get all this time? Did Gumby's train take the scenic route?

No kidding! In fact, Gumby felt WAY out-of-character for most 60s episodes.

@@ToonMike2006 Obviously it's because Art Clokey wasn't involved with the show as much by this time. He had been trying out LSD and was affecting life for him and his family. Ironically, this was one of the few late 60s episodes where Clokey actually voiced Pokey and Prickle, but he sure didn't write this one (usually in the late 60s episodes, either Dallas McKennon would voice Pokey and Prickle, or Norma MacMillan (Gumby and Goo's voice actress) would voice Pokey while Hal Smith voiced Prickle.)

@@ZakWolf got it. I figured after watching the 2006 documentary “Gumby Dharma” where at some point it talked about Art’s absence from the show at the time. (Plus, an iceberg meme talking about how “Pokey has canonically taken LSD”, which gave me a hint)

Wow! Gumby in a homicidal rage. This is more like an Itchy and Scratchy episode than the usual Gumby. I always felt that Art Clokey was somewhat mad. Even when I was a little girl I found Gumby oddly disconcerting.

Gumby's not fighting over a handkerchief, he's fighting for his girlfriend, whom Prickle was trying to steal from him.

This is the only episode where Gumby and Goo show any romantic interest in each other. In other cases, Goo would usually not be the romantic type, though later on in the franchise she'd develop a crush on Prickle, while Gumby would get a girlfriend named Tara.

This one feels very out of character, Gumby, Prickle, and Goo are all friends, and up to now Goo seemed more of a love interest for Pokey, as evidenced by that one episode where she wouldn't stop flirting with him. It would be like if Popeye and Wimpy fought a duel for Olive Oyl.

Exactly! Both have even helped each other a number of times, which is why this episode feels so weird. This would have made more sense if one of the blockheads did this, while they're nonverbal it would still make sense than this.
