This is honestly one of the most heartbreaking songs in the series, just because it shows how pointless it really was for Cherubim to use the Venom Sword. He didn't need some demonic power to make Gumina love him, she already did. His actions did nothing but destroy the future he could have had.

yeah but gumina couldnt love him cus of sateriasis he wouldve died in the end, its all complexed but it wouldve been nice to see cherubim and gumina become a thing..
Let me explain to those of you who don't understand: Gumina Glassred is the name of the woman in the PV (GUMI). She was one of Duke Venomania's many victims, and one of the few women he was already acquainted with before falling to lust. Basically Cheribum Venomania (Duke Venomania's real name) was born with a face "deformation" which caused his birth mother to commit suicide and his father to remarry after locking him up in a prison cell, where a soldier took pity on him and taught him how to read and write. Anyway, his father had another child with his new wife, Sateriasis, and Sateriasis one day found him while exploring the castle. They then started to sneak out of the palace together and play, until they one day met Gumina--who, also, decided to play with them. After a while, Sateriasis was able to convince their father to let him be a member of the palace, rather then being confined to a prison cell. He agreed, but Cheribum had to live in the basement, and the only portraits he had were of his face being covered by his long bangs to hide his face. Anyway, he was employed as a servant, and he found out that Gumina was engaged to Sateriasis. He was upset, because he had a crush on Gumina, and snapped at their engagement party, killing everyone in the Venomania palace, save Gumina, as she was able to escape. When he found out what he did, he despaired, and considered killing himself with the sword that he had used to do this (that, or he did stab himself; can't remember). However, IR intervened and told him that he could be beautiful if he stabbed himself with it (possibly again). Although he was unsure about it, he agreed to these terms and stabbed himself, changing his face to that of Sateriasis's, and whipping the part of his memory. Therefore, he could only remember a bit about Gumina and the massacre, except for the fact that he and everyone in Asmodean (his country) remembered the massacre, and blamed assassins or mercenaries for it. So, he took up his brother's identity (or it was forced on him) and he began to abduct young women. Despite his lustful behavior, Sateriasis/Cheribum was actually very smart and had a calm demeanor, along with being well mannered. What Gumina was singing about the whole time was the fact that he burned every one of the old portraits of him, including the ones that she painted while he wasn't in the mansion during the events of The Lunacy of Duke Venomania.

You forgot the most important part. Saterias (cherubims brother) was doubting that Gumina had a crush on Cherubims. So even though he was the one who freed Cherubim from the prison cell. He plotted to kill Cherubim to win Guminas love. Gumina found out about the plot so when Cherubim confessed to her. She turned him down and degraded his looks. This made cherubrim very insecure about his face even more even though Gumina only rejected him because she wanted to protect him. Her rejection ultimately made Cherubim kill his own family and himself until abyss I.R interrupted.

@@starandeath4735 Yeah, I didn't know that when I wrote the comment before. I do now, of course, but thank you for correcting me.
"What I sought wasn't your face...But the real you as you were...But hey, neither you nor I was able to realize that..." "It's not that changing is bad. But what you really needed was to accept yourself without changing, too. But you didn't realize that..."
I first listened this without headphones and cried so hard. Then I listened the song again with headphones and cried even more and whispered: "How can this song become more beautiful and sadder?"

When I first heard this song I cried like a little kid. Venomania and Gumina's story was already one of my favorite parts of the whole EC. And the song itself has such a sad and beautiful tone in lyrics, even now more than a year later I still get chills listening to it.

+42Caio (Caio Esteves) I know right. Venomania had the saddest backstory out of all imo His curse also follows his descendant, Banica, who's fate was almost as sad as his

The translation certainly makes it sadder. Especially the last line: "It wasn't your face I desired What I wanted was your true genuine self However neither of us realized that in the end..."
