This is sailplanes/gliders. The lanuch method seen here is not much used anymore. Aerotow ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZXJeIl7idt-l68 )or winching is more effective :=)

There 80jears old. the have an glide ratio of abaut 25. modern gliders have up to 70. which mens that we can glide with 1000 meter altitude 70km. also modern gliders are made out of GFK/ CFK/Carbon
