I had to split this up into a two part sitting as my head was spinning after about 45 mins. A bewildering show of guns and equipment I would probably have to spend a few days there and still walk away wondering what I have just seen. Good luck to Holts and their sales, the dedication and professional attention to detail and cataloguing is phenomenal and an achievement in itself. Good show JC and the crew!!! Well worth a look!!!

I have firearms that my great grandparents ordered from catalogs from the 1930-50s that shoot just as good as they did back then. One is an H&R 922 that was 8 dollars, which is about 100 bucks today. You don't need to pay 10k plus for a gun your grandkids will shoot. All you have to do is appreciate what you have and take care of it. These are art investments, not firearm investments.

Alright, I'll admit that I'd want to take that Swedish pump for a spin, but I'll bet that, unless there's something seriously amiss with it, the Remington 31 on the list could teach it a lesson on smoothness. And I doubt you see many 31's over there.

Great fun. Almost like being there and sharing your enthusiasm. I do wonder about your comments concerning "American Damascus". To the best of my knowledge, Parker Bros. never made Damascus barrels. At one point, after tariffs were raised on imported barrels, they hired Belgian barrel makers as instructors and set up a forge here. The project was unsuccessful for a couple of reasons including the fact that the Belgians were paid 9 cents per hour whereas the Americans demanded 25 cents. Parker imported all of their Damascus barrel blanks. I think they were all Belgian. I know that Remington had one Belgian supplier but don't know whether they used others. In fact, the word "Remington" might be visible in their Damascus pattern. It can be very difficult to see but reflects amazing Damascus design by the metal smiths. L.C. Smith used foreign Damascus (? Belgian and some English) as well as English fluid steel barrels until they bought an English maker of crucible steel and merged it with their own so that they could label barrels "London Steel" to eliminate Whitworth as a supplier. As to the number of moving parts in Parkers, they were very aware of this and hired a firearms engineer who redesigned the action to reduce the total number to something like four. That happened at the turn of the 19th century. I'm sure there will be someone reading this who will recall that engineer's name, but I'll look it up, if you wish.
